I thought there already *was* a patron saint for internet: St Isidorus of Sevilla, who was credited with writing the first encyclopedia.

I consider Saint Sebastian to be the Patron Saint of Spam E-mail. Most depictions show him bound to a tree and there's all these arrows sticking in him.

If Jon Postel is inelgible because he's not Catholic, not long dead, or whatever, then that's just the Catholic Church's own problem.

Gotta love this latest Catholic Corp marketing ploy.

I vote for Stallman, he's already got the halo.

How can Gabriel be a patron saint if he's an angel, not a saint? That's like naming a plumber as poet laureate. A plumber that's not a poet.

I think St Isidorus was merely under consideration, I don't think they ever made a decision.

I have a nifty litho of the angel Gabriel as the patron saint of telecommunications. He is, after all, the great announcer of things.

cronopio: i thought Isadore already had it too.

An official blessing for RMS would be a great thing too. he's got just the right level of militancy for the catholic church, too.

There already is a saint dedicated to (computer users and) the Internet... Saint Isadore Known as Isidore The Bishop, the Schoolmaster of the Middle Ages, and Librarian of the Saints. ie Holy Nerd of Data.
