Man, I knew this was just a big conspiracy by the marketing droids at Starbucks to get us to photograph, post, and blog about their coffee nonstop! After someone gets the balls to call them directly on it, their response is "policy? what policy?"
I get the feeling that someone won a big bet over this at Starbucks HQ ("Hey, Bob, watch what I can do with all these InterwebNet folk...").

So does the question become "If you are an individual taking a picture, then you put it up on your weblog, are you considered part of the media?" If people are arguing that weblogs are just as viable/important a medium as any other, shouldn't they follow the same rules? Should webloggers be required to wear a fedora with a "press" card on it at all times, since they might be "reporting" on whatever they're doing at any moment in the day?

Yeah, good question, but remember that this = GOOD for bloggers. Boingboing gets free reign to take pictures of whatever and CBS and FOX wind up in licensing negotiations with SB. Blogs get the scoop, dinosaur media gets left out in the cold...
In theory that is -- in theory.

From the other thread (Dav Coleman, post #42 in the other thread) I learned that Starbucks has a store policy against sticking a cucumber up your arse. I think this policy is rediculous and that we need another show of force here!

It'll be interesting to see the reaction of the 'blogging community' to this one. A large portion of the people 'reporting' on Starbuck's policy seemed to also be the ones who wanted there blogs to afford them press rights at various events.
Will they suddenly hand back their press pass in order to get the story. Of will they stick to their guns and respect Starbuck's policy?
