"France Surrenders" is an internet cliche, playing on the fact that France always surrenders if there's always the slightest chance of conflict. Started mainly on Fark.com.

The folks at Fark.com are quite ignorant of current events, then. France is second only to the United States in the number of military adventures overseas. Just look at what the French are doing right now in Ivory Coast:

As the country anxiously awaited the president's evening address, hundreds of French troops flew in to the lagoon-side main city Abidjan, spilling out of a civilian jumbo and lugging their knapsacks across the sweltering runway.

The reinforcements' arrival brings the number of French troops in the former French colony to about 3,000 and underlines the tensions in the coastal city, where anti-French riots erupted after the peace deal was agreed last month.

Gbagbo will speak at 8 p.m., lifting two weeks of almost total silence on a deal his supporters say is little more than a constitutional coup by the former colonial master France.

The problem is, though, that French military adventurism takes place in the Third World, in its former colonies, which is a blind spot for the media in the United States. The said media only covers military interventions if the United States is involved, and the United States has no interests where the French are concerned.

It's official: we are all living in a bad cyberpunk novel from the early 1990s. Therefore it seems only fitting to suggest it as a Worldcon venue.

Luxembourg might throw in the prince, but Seborga is a better bet than Liechenstein.
