hey, those mozilla tabs are spiff! Explorer doesn't have 'em. I'll never go back. I hated myself, eschewing netscape for IE all that time, but icab didn't work with enough sites. I felt like I was trapped in a manipulative relationship with my browser! But now, at long last, the tables have turned! Finally, I can kick IE to the curb, and surf with a clear conscience. Thanx, mozilla!

Just ran the installer. It makes you quit out of all your other apps before it'll run. Hellooooo? This is Unix!

I think this is an issue with InstallerVise and not MS. I've had the same problem with some other installers and had the same thought.

Somewhat arcane, but you can turn off the download manager and go back to the old method. I hate the manager too.

Short method: Put this in your user.js.
user_pref("browser.downloadmanager.behavior", 1);

to turn off the download manager, go to:
prefs -> navigator -> downloads and select 'open a progress dialog'

and while it doesn't look like you can have links, by default, open in a new tab you can via the 'tabbed browsing' pref (right above the 'download manager' pref, above) open a link in a new tab by control-clicking. if i knew that you were using a pc and not a mac, i'd tell you to right-click on the link and select 'open link in new tab' but one-button mice are just another benefit of having the same vendor make both your hardware and operating system. ;-)

and ANOTHER THING: the Mozilla 1.1 alpha release (which, by my reckoning, is 95% as stable as 1.0 release) allows OS X users to enable Quartz rendering. fun!

my blogthis! link doesn't work in mozilla for some reason... no luck with the mozblog plugin either.

My Moz prefs panel doesn't have a navigator-downloads pane, but I did insert the line into the prefs.js file. Now, though, my downloads happen invisibly -- I want a d/l manager like the one in MSIE and Opera, which shows which files are downloading and how far along they are. I guess I could just use curl...

I have been using control-click and selecting "open in new tab" for a while now, but I'd much prefer a single shortcut (i.e., option-click or command-click) that just spawns a new tab without having to scroll through a popup menu.

Blogthis! bookmarks are the lone reason I use internet explorer. They're awesome.

I just keep an "Edit Your Blog" tab open all the time. I write my blog entries in BBEdit (which is a better text-editor than either Moz or MSIE provides), so the "Blog This" bookmarklet is of limited utility.

I'm grudgingly doing without my blogthis abilities, but being able to select a text chunk, then click 'blog this' and get a blogged url and an already pasted text chunk was pretty awesome.

I just downloaded and installed 5.2 and the first thing to get turned off was Quartz Text Smoothing. It made me feel like I'd had a head injury. How is blurry text easier on the eyes? Ugh.

That's just one place where the old school mac has OS X beat. You could specify to anti-alias all onscreen text *above* a certain point size. anti-aliased 9 or 10 pt text? Gimme a break. You bet your ass I'll send a message to the silk team to see if they can add this feature. . .
