First it was planespotters. Now it's gamers. If I were a Star Trek fan, I wouldn't be planning on going to Greece at any time in the near future...!

From what I have read in some privare newsgroups, the law
only forbids the games if a fee is charged for playing them.
This should let the home users and the Olympics off. But it
sucks for Internet cafes since they can't easily stop people
from playing games, yet they charge for access to the
computers.

Just let them all play with the new VIBRATING Harry Potter broom, and no one will think twice about missing DIABLO or GTA3.

Nearly every sport in the Olympic Games relies on electrical timing or ranking mechanisms nowadays. That's against this new law. Since Athens is hosting the 2004 Summer Games, did they just make the Olympics illegal?

I have added additional links, clarifications, speculations, related news stories (e.g. Australia skyrocketing Insurance rates against terrorists attacking amusement parks, means thrill rides must shut down), implications, snide comments, etc. on my weblog. http://radio.weblogs.com/0107846/2002/09/04.html#a206

I think the game is "minesweeper", but "mindsweeper" may actually be appropriate in this case.

word has it that it's the result of a poorly drafted law, not some American-style morality parade
