I had heard this was a joke... can anyone verify?

These guys have taken responsibility for it, but I haven't seen any other corroborating evidence. I imagine we're now entering an era where if something mysterious happens, there will be a dozen or so folks claiming responsibility.

P.S. Hi Jonathan, long time no speak!

Good Lord, Chris Barrus! Wandering Mac Jedi and one time coolest person I personally knew (you may very well still be coolest person, but it's been nearly nine years since we last kept in regular contact). This is hardly the forum to catch up - send me an email (jrouse@directpartners.com) and tell me what you've been up to.

It's a spoof. The site's been around for a while, meta-parodying Landover Baptist. There's other good stuff there like this page. It's down right now, but here's a snippet:

However, in 1969, Apollo astronauts placed seismic devices on the moon's surface to measure the reverberations directly. These devices recorded the impacts of meteorites as expected, but they also picked up a strange, persistent, low-frequency waveform. When the waveform was run through audio processing computers which sped it up and applied various filters to it, it was discovered to be an echoing voice. The voice was speaking in ancient Aramaic!

Wonderful!
