Cheap? This device should be < $50!!! I just bought a Linksys 802.11b gateway/NAT/4-port 100mb box for $115 after rebate with free shipping -- from Amazon! There is a desperate need for this kind of device, but it is way overpriced.

It's not overpriced: it's actually cheap because it's designed to handle up to 30 devices, although a single one is just fine, too.
The cost of building one of these units is about the same as building a full access point because of the innards and MAC/NIC stuff.

plugh, login's been required since a couple of months ago, when people started impersonating me in the message boards. I'd be happy to switch to a nonlogin system if I could be sure of being able to keep "Cory Doctorow" from being used by anyone but me.

I'm not sure how you use the fact that it is "designed to handle 30 devices" to justify the price tag! It's got one RJ45 jack and an antenna. I have hubs in my office that meet that definition of "support", and they cost < $25. Granted, it has actual management software, which the hub doesn't, but I would use all this to then claim that the BEFW11S4 is in fact overpriced by the same argument. Add that to the fact that you can get Orinoco Gold PC cards for $75, and it starts to look really bad.
At any rate, I don't see how they will sell many of these since with the BEFW11S4 you get much more for approx. the same price. You can put the BEFW11S4 into a client mode and just do the same thing.
Cory -- I must have just posted before the changeover! I was just irked because my favorite login (xyzzy) was taken :-)

Which I think is what plugh is getting at. I may be missing something here, but at that price point, what is the advantage of buying this Wireless Bridge device over just buying another access point?
What advantage is there over buying this and doing what plugh mentions and just buying another BEFW11S4 and putting it in client mode?
