its beyond most peoples ability to challenge the moon landing. I don't believe we went and the info is minimal at best with lots of questions. People just can't stand a challenge to thier established beliefs

I saw a film clip of the punch on TV - can't remember what show. It was awesome. Go Buzz! Not enough aggravating idiots get punched in the face (quite a statement from this pacifist).

Timmy, if you go to NASA.gov, they have the most beautiful reply to the dumbass show and other silly commentators. What's so great about it is that it's also a wonderful set of lessons in basic physics. Americans love conspiracies so much that they make them up where none exist. Wonderful. Absolutely marvellous news! And if the nutjob tries to sue Aldrin he should be laughed out of any court.
Let's face it - you're part of a hand-picked warrior elite chosen to undertake the most dangerous and furthest journeys in human history. You have walked upon the surface of the moon, and looked up at the Earth hanging in space like a priceless blue bauble. It is the single greatest moment in your entire life. Now these nutcases come along saying it was all a lie and didn't really happen. Of course you're going to be really pissed off about that. When one of these nutcases comes along and starts hassling you as you're going about your daily business, what are you going to do?
Aldrin punched his lights out. Good for Buzz. Knock some sense into the bugger. And it's a tribute to him that at the age of 72 he can still clean the clock of someone about half his age!

According to Reuters, the weirdo is a we-never-landed-on-the-moon conspiracy theorist who has tried three times to tape "surprise interviews" with Aldrin. Sounds to me like his target ran out of patience.
I've met Buzz Aldrin. I've had lunch with him. He's for real. I like him.

Unconfirmed, heard in another discussion: The belt-ee was a bit of a stalker. Arrested trespassing around Armstrong's house trying to pull the same stunt.
I don't approve of casual violence, but I can understand Aldrin's action if this guy was some obsessed, in-yer-face nut who just wouldn't leave him alone.
