My son is an Eagle Scut, Roman Catholic, now attending school at a catolic university on a partial scholarship. He is kind, generous, and open-minded. Despite the issue of the Scouts being anti-atheist, I am sure that he would defend a secular humanist, or an atheist inscouting. That's what we taught him. He believes in a woaman's right to choose (which briefly had him in some trouble with the troop)and ina persons right to have their own sexuality. My cousin, a fine man and teacher of college courses, is gay. He and his partner have been together longer than my wife and I have been married. They have stayed at our house, and shared the room. None of the Scoutmasters or assistants (including myself) are deviants of any kind (except for the insurance salesmen and the Wannabe financial advisors).
The intent of scouting in general is a good thing. The Boy Scouts of America, much as our own Catholic Church, is hidebound and archaic. Yeah, I know I should leaave, but I keep hoping for some change, some "miracle" that would allow our desires to be reflected in our faith. Hey, people keep buying lottery tickets!
