I'm boggling at the eight bucks for the average CD price, never mind the cheaper prices on a burnt-to-order one.

How will this cut down on pirated cd's? They will still cost 1/24th the average monthly salary (instead of 1/10th). That's still out of the price range of most consumers. To put it in persepective, if you earn $600/week, imagine paying $100 a CD.

If the pirated versions are just duplicates of real discs, and this machine makes legal mix-cds, then you can get the ten to twenty tracks you really want legally at a fraction of the cost.
Of course, I don't know that the pirated versions are not pop mixes already.

Don't forget that there's a range of incomes in Brazil.
The really poor will still buy pirate CDs.
Some of the slightly better off, who previously bought pirate CDs, might now go for legal automat disks because they're of higher quality and/or give a choice of tracks.

If I used the Brazilian scale I'd be paying about 80 bucks per cd. Thank heavens for http://www.emusic.com and http://half.com. Ah, I think I'll go drink a refreshing Dr. Pepper.
