Here is a site with some good facts on hippos, http://www.engin.umich.edu/~cre/web_mod/Hippo/hfact.htm. Among the gems: hippos are more dangerous than lions; hippos have been known to bite crocodiles in half. They can run 30 MPH and kill several hundred people a year. And, they don't fart. |

Another bit of hippo trivia: contrary to their appearance, they aren't particularly fat. That is, they are about as lean as most wild mammals as a percentage of body weight.
And if you're watching the hippos eat at a zoo, when it turns around, MOVE! They like to take a dump after eating and spin their cute little tails as they do so, and that little propeller-tail will fling hippo shit quite a distance.
