"As a 19-year-old, he renamed the street he lived in as 'Jan Fabre street' and fixed a commemorative plaque to his parents' home."

And he's so proud of that feat, he put it in his PR bio! I was nearly that geeky in my youth, but I generally hope no one remembers.

I hope he used a decent glue, if this is supposed to last for hundreds of years. This guy doesn't exactly sound like the practical type. There's more to creating large-scale, permanent, public works of art than just having a wacky idea.

How long do you think before someone films a horror movie in there?

Are a bunch of beetle bodies going to stand up for hundreds of years? They're going to collect a lot of dust, I'd imagine, and I suspect that any attempts to remove the dust, no matter how gentle, are going to break off some bits.

For that matter, how were the beetles preserved? If there's much organic matter left, that place might get pretty ripe in a while. Then again, this guy supposedly wanted to wrap some columns in raw meat and leave it for a few months, to collect flies.

Speaking of which, anyone remember that site where some guy left a piece of meat in his yard to rot, photographing it every few days? I can't seem to find it anymore, it was rather interesting, in a disgusting way.

jleader - the site you're looking for is at http://thespark.com/science/stinkyhome.html, along with a few other goofy projects the guy did.

Oh...and I also hate it when The Guardian or other news pages have a story like this and no pictures of the stupid thing...wtf? They could at least toss up a couple photos, whole story is shot without 'em, pretty much.
