419 is a section of law in Nigeria banning a certain type
of scam. 419 letters try to con people with that scam. You
can report 419 scams to Secret Service (a branch of the
treasury) by forwarding them to 419.fcd@usss.treas.gov,
use the subject 'no loss scam' if you have had no losses.

The way the scam works is someone pretends to have a large
amount of money which needs to be smuggled or laundered
and asks for your help offering a share of the money. Then
they try to weasel "fees" and "bribe" money out of you in
the name of getting the money on its way. Often times these
scams are done by Nigerians or people posing as Nigerians.

I don't suppose there's any point in reporting emails offering child porn from hotmail accounts to anybody is there? Who would you report them to?
