This is old, old, old news. I quit showing dogs about 15 years ago (new baby, dollar/fun ratio was unfavorable)--lots of gossip and some substantiated reports of: eyelids being surgically repaired (inturned eyelids, so the eyelashes rub the cornea, are a common genetic defect); artificial testicles for males whose testicles didn't descend, and so on. The breed I showed (Black & Tan Coonhounds) forbid any white hairs--there were rumors that Champion So'n'So had had a large chest patch surgically removed; certainly the dogs I showed had the odd white hair here and there, which we plucked. Furthermore, before reliable, inexpensive DNA testing, it was quite possible that if you sent your female dog to be bred to Champion Bowser, the bitch might instead be covered by Champion Bowser's full brother, since Champion Bowser was infertile.
It is an odd, obsessive, inbred world, dog showing.
