 Freeman Dyson was in town (Portland) last week & gave a lecture on techology & development issues.

He presented a bunch of case studies, of development projects that worked . . . or didn't. An interesting mix of free market and non-market conclusions, although he seemed to favor grass-roots market solutions. And ticked off lots of folks by suggesting that GMO crops weren't eeee-vill.
