from what i've gleaned through reading up on some chinese astrology, the "little guests" poster was done in the early 70's, '73 or '74, a new year poster for the year of the rabbit. the chinese believe "the man in the moon" is a rabbit-chemist who prepares longevity formulas.

there are postcards for sale here:

http://www.iisg.nl/collections/cards.html

but unfortunately, not any of the "chubby babies" ones. i do like the "christ guerrillero" postcard though. i wrote to the guy who runs the chinese poster site about getting a hold of a print quality scan of the "moon palace" poster for personal use. he said if he ever had one made, he'd share it with me. so, my next step is to offer to pay for the scan, if he'll go get it made. i'll see how that goes. i've lusted after that poster for at least two years now.

p.s. i love the one with the fish and the gems too!

AWESOME! "Little Guests . . . " is the trippiest thing I've seen all month (and I'm currently reading a Jim Woodring collection . . .).

The one that shows a tot shoving gems down a fish's throat is great too.

"Our Good Friends" are gonna sue the pants off that artist.

I'd love prints or postcards of some of these.

if you like those, there are tons more here:

http://www.iisg.nl/~landsberger/

there are some other political propaganda posters from russia and cuba on the same site here:

http://www.iisg.nl/exhibitions/index.html

my all time favorite poster is "little guests in the moon palace" about half way down this page:

http://www.iisg.nl/~landsberger/nh.html

you know, you see those repros of chinese advertising posters all over chinatown. i wish they would reproduce some of these. this site offers a few postcards, i think, but nothing big.

Take a look near the lower left-hand corner. Even the Chinese despots (and Chip -- or is it Dale?) know that the accordion is your friend.
