"Palladium was successful in gaining widespread attention. Unfortunately, it was also imprecise."
It's a _code_ _name_. It's not in any way descriptive, so how can it be imprecise? Maybe they mean "we were imprecise in defining it, so it was used to mean several different things." If that's the case, what are the different things, and what are they going to be called? Replacing name "X" with name "Y" does nothing to affect the precision of the concept being named.
I agree with cypherpunk; it's called Palladium. As Humpty Dumpty says, "It's merely a question of who is to be the master"!

It could also be refered to as "The Application Formerly Known As Palladium".

Just keep calling it Palladium. Next time you say, "Palladium does so-and-so," some snotty guy will correct you: "The name has changed, it's now next generation secure computing base." You say, "Thanks. Like I was saying, Palladium does so-and-so...," and go on from there. Just keep using the word and ignore the attempts to change the name. It's simple.

True, they probably just figured out that people would get tired of saying "'next-generation secure computing base' sucks" faster than they would "Palladium sucks".

I was just thinking e should alter their name to Microsoft Secure Computing Base or MSSCB (pronounced M-S-SCaB).

Next-Generation Secure Code Base, eh? Let's see if we can make it easier to remember. NGSCB isn't much of an improvement... Let's just run the words together and get Nega-Succubus.
