Well, the clothing also looked more 1960's than 1918. If they started working in 1918, and had 48 years of service when the photo was taken, that would make it 1966, which fits with the flourescent fixtures, the open collar shirts, etc.

Hmmm. Is that out of place? I find one website that tells me
that fluorescent lighting was invented in the 1870s, but
another tells me they were not marketed until the late 1930s.
Unfortunately this sort of historical research the web is not
so good at.

Cool site, one nit:

How come the first photo under "Manufacturing, Light" claims it's from 1918, but the picture has flourescent light fixtures in it? Maybe the workers pictured _started_ working in 1918?

The caption says:
