Actually, it's sort of old news. On a related note, there's a strong movement to create an open source replacement for the desktop version of BeOS (since Palm discontinued it after buying it for their handhelds): http://open-beos.sourceforge.net/ http://www.blueeyedos.com/ http://www.cosmoe.com/ It's also worth noting that the Hiptop operating system, which powers the nifty T-Mobile Sidekick that Cory used to rave about, was programmed mostly be ex-Be engineers.

Palm keeps manifesting its Apple genetic material. In the early '90s Apple successfully changed processor architectures (M68K > PPC), then more recently replaced the OS. A few days ago Palm released the ARM-powered Tungsten (thus going from 68K > RISC as well) and "soon" they will replace their little OS with a robust and k00|_ one. Not to mention that both Apple's and Palm's new-generation OSs are based on work by Apple expatriates...
