"Remember! Theres A Publisher in Youre Own Back Yard." Well, they may know about publishing, but they don't seem to have grasped basic English. That should be "Your", not "You're." Pardon my cynicism. :)

So now that the Haydens are through with being arrogant in the SF community, they're going after Web site owners -- ill informed or no. Nice.

Well, geez, the linked blog entry said What you should not do, under any circumstances, is take Back Yard Publishers advice on anything.
and there were scare quotes around "Facts" in the title of the entry! What is this, Slashdot? Read the article, then comment! :-)

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Justified columns existed long before lead type, it is not done because the printers are worried about chipped type. Calligraphers used justified columns in hand-copied texts because it looked neater. Printers are far more worried about lead type chipping in the type drawer or while being handled during typesetting. If you don't believe me, I've got drawers full of lead type I've been using for about 30 years, I'll show em to you.

In gravure printing the letters are etched into a plate (usually Copper), then ink is forced into the letters, scraped from the area around the letters and paper is forced onto the ink at extremely high pressure. The ink is then transferred to the paper. This is what the song "In Your Easter Bonnet" is all about. Here are the relevant lyrics from "Easter Parade": On the Avenue Fifth Avenue The photographers will snap us And you'll find that you're In the rotogravure I wouldn't describe Teresa Nielsen Hayden as "gently, throughly and lovingly correcting it" in the quoted example. It seemed unfair.

The web page's layout is itself a disaster.

I'm guessing that they mean that you'll find that you're in the rotogravure, but that's not how a rotogravure works.
What a marvelously silly site.
