But -- but -- TARDIS should be in all-caps. It's an acronym!

Okay, I'll stop now.

OK, a quick google (hey, is that a new word yet?) found articles like http://society.guardian.co.uk/longtermcare...8150,566345,00.html which never define bed-blocking, but imply that due to a lack of long-term care facilities patients (especially elderly patients) who no longer need hospital care are staying in public-health funded hospital beds because there's no place else the can afford to go, thus blocking those beds from being occupied by incoming sick people.

What's "bed-blocking"?

Also, the article claims that the previous (1993) edition didn't include control freak, BLT, and Heimlich manoeuvre.

Now I know I was taught the Heimlich maneuver (however spelled) in a CPR class around 1979 or so, and I certainly heard the term "control freak" in the early 80s, while BLTs have been around since before I was born.

So what obvious every-day words is the current edition missing?

Of course, the really cool thing is that if I come up with any, I can submit them for inclusion in the next edition: http://dictionary.oed.com/public/readers/research.htm
