Rick Linklater had been looking at it for a while. Coppola is kind of a director for hire now, so who knows how this will turn out.

Coppola wrote a screenplay at least a decade (or two?) ago, at that time with Johnny Depp attached in some fashion. Brad Pitt? Enh. This thing bounces back into discussion every few years... I'll believe it when I see it.

the Yabyum scene should be interesting.

Not Brad Pitt. Wrong oh wrong. A Cusack or two and a Dillon would make a much better film.

...would a French Canadian actor seem too absurd?

How about Crispin Glover as Burroughs?

Is anyone else bothered that Joel "Batman with Nipples" Schumacher is involved (HACK! ahem)?

There was a dramatization of caroline cassidy's 'off the road' called 'heartbeat'- sissy spacek as caroline, nick nolte as neil cassidy (he looked and acted perfectly) and John Heard as Kerouac (again absolute spitting image) .... brad pitt as neil seems fait accompli; that manic style is pitt's stock in trade.

Has anybody heard the status on this project, it's sure been quiet lately?
