It's been a while since I read JWZ's diary, but I recall the place was pretty trashed when he started, they remodeled and had to re-negotiate a whole bunch of permits. So it's not like he paid a bunch of money and took over operating an existing club. Then again, this is all based on my hazy memory of JWZ's telling of the story, so I doubt it's 100% accurate.

jleader: yes, I think it was just about ready to fold and it's not the same DNA Lounge it was. Still, I would imagine buying a club is a whole different pot of potatoes than opening a club. And God help me, I'll give Rob Schneider credit when his credit is due!

Stacy, wasn't DNA Lounge pretty much shut down when JWZ bought it? So at least he re-opened it.

I am still reeling that one of the authors of Xemacs is using livejournal. It just isn't right, I tell you! Next he'll be listening to Barry Manilow.

[update] there are two journals. THe club diary is on the jwz.org site.

It seems that every major city has a club with the word "DNA" in the name.

Well, to be fair, Jamie didn't open the DNA Lounge, he bought it from Rob Schneider.
