wedged

My rowing consistency has taken a tumble in the past couple of days as I try to wedge yet another minor obsession into a packed family life. I'm learning to play the drums. Haven't bought any yet, but I had a lesson and I've spent two hours each evening just working with sticks, patterns, and a makeshift practice pad. It's a blast (geez, how good will it be when I replace a duct-taped mouse pad with a cheap set of drums?), but staying up 'til midnight kept me from my 6am wakeup. Sadly, I'm not one of those lucky four-hour-a-night sleepers.

Anyway, got back on the rowing machine this morning and my gluteus told me, halfway throught the workout, that all this is way too much sitting down. I'm going to eventually need to find another exercise outlet. Fortunately, warm weather is just around the corner. Only a couple more snowstorms to get through.

2 hard

Did the longer workout today, but afraid I got too ambitious and did a fast-ish time too. What will happen tomorrow? I'll have to stay tuned.

rowing with skis

Just back after a week-long hiatus from the rowing machine. Spent much if the time on skis: downhill and cross-country (aka, if you wear tight-fitting clothing, "alpine" and "nordic"). Delightful, but purely in the sense of exertion, one of those vacations-from-which-you-need-a-vacation.

Back on the machine nonetheless. A little shorter today because we're awaiting the return of our guinea pig and I want to look my best for Butterscotch.

running with crimpons

Ok. The stationary bike is cool. But what I need is to get out and breathe some sea level air. It's thin up here on my 3rd floor and I'm getting hypoxic and thinking surreal, 7th chakrus, nimbus thoughts; the kind I thought I'd banished when I moved away from SF. And it's all because of The One, Exerblog.

brownian motion

Didn't do much directed pulling on the machine today, but at least I was there at the appointed time. This is not a Crash-B trajectory, I have to admit. I'm just looking for a stable orbit.

Slouching towards slouching

Oh Exerblog, I approach thee with yet another confession. The center cannot hold. I canna hold her together, Cap'n.

It is a massy wheel,
Fixed on the summit of the highest mount,
To whose huge spokes ten thousand lesser things
Are mortis’d and adjoin’d; which, when it falls
Each small annexment, petty consequence,
Attends the boisterous ruin.
I skipped three days of rowing, entirely, with no excuses other than feeling bushed and "deservedly" lazy. But now I'm back. Really. I'm saying it right here so it's true. Did a good stint this morning. And it's gotta-be-gonna-be back to the feet-on-the-floor-before-the-alarm-stops-ringing rule. And ten Hail Dreissigackers.

[whoa! Joe, welcome again; didn't see your post at first. Glad to hear your dharma bum is still on the ExerBike.]

Habit?

Yep, still at it. In the mind it's a tad more desultory but so far in the body it's -- what, habit?

tshook-hoooosh

I need to open a new can of resolve. Last night before bed (too late) I actually said to myself "ahh, you deserve a day or two break between months". And I actually listened. But surprisingly I woke at 5:45 this morning. Yet I didn't get out of bed when the alarm rang at 6:00. Despite all this, I was on the rowing machine at the usual time.

Oh Exerblog, I confess: I missed one day on Friday for no good reason. (We were away over the StuporBowl weekend.)

I hope the motivation of this blog holds out. Gotta get some more of you readers (yeah right) involved here. Let me know.
