shards

Ach, my exercise program is blasted to fragments. The consistency picture is floating apart like slabs of melting pond ice. If there's a single culprit other than the teasing changing season, it's probably this drum compulsion that keeps me up late doing rudimentary drills. Late night paradiddles over early morning power-tens. The drummer's throne usurps the sliding seat. etc. It's surely exercise because I'm exhausted by bedtime, but it's shorter on cardio benefit.

That Monday run helped derail the rowing train too -- I was sore through Thursday, descending steps gingerly like my wife after a marathon. I guess I can't just go run five miles after a winter's rest of whatever muscles differ from rowing.

So I've got another annual carrot to help me go on -- the Vermont Adventure Games -- in which I'll kayak for our legendary (to us) team DiviDivi for the third year running. I forewarned the other team members that this year I won't be training an hour a day before the race (the kayak segment is about that long), and they all seem to be in the same mode. But beware to our stealthy competitors, we may catch you with your guard down!
