Question set #00000003

Hi Jamie!

That's good work. Only one mistake this time - Q#5 is D! 30-pin SIMMS are 8-bit wide and you need 64-bits for Pentium-class systems

You're almost ready for the A+ exam. Just a day or two more and you can go for it!

Answers to Question set #00000002

Hi Jamie!

Here are the answers:

Q1. Which type(s) of cable can you use for a 100Mb Ethernet network? (a) Category 2
(b) Category 5
(c) Category 3
(d) Category 1

Category 3 supports only upto 10Mbps networks therefore its Category 5, which supports 100Mbps networks

Q2. Which of the following are supported by Windows 2000:
(a) NTFS
(b) FAT12
(c) HPFS
(d) FAT32

Windows 2000 supports all kinds of FAT and NTFS partitions in existence. HPFS is not supported though

Q3. At which level of the OSI model do routers operate?
(a) Transport
(b) Network
(c) Data-link
(d) Physical

Repeaters, hubs etc operate at the Data-link layer, but routers operate at the Network later

Q4. Which of the following would you use to format a disk and make it bootable:
(a) FORMAT /S
(b) FORMAT C: /C
(c) FORMAT C: /s
(d) FORMAT C -S

I didn't mention which drive, but option C is the only one that creates a bootable disk

Q5. Which of the following are features introduced in NTFS 5:
(a) File and Folder level Security
(b) Disk Quotas
(c) Auto-Defragmenting
(d) Support for larger volumes
Well, this one is very obvious

Your score: 17.5
Total: 25

You did a good job, but I think one more reading would do miracles for you. Make sure you go for the exam as soon as you're done with the preparations. It seems like you may have forgotten some of the material because the exam seemed quite easy with the stuff we did in class.

Question set #00000002

Hi!

Some of these question, I agree, are tough. You are not expected to answer all of the questions. There are also some easy ones this time.

Q1. Which type(s) of cable can you use for a 100Mb Ethernet network? (a) Category 2
(b) Category 5
(c) Category 3
(d) Category 1

Q2. Which of the following are supported by Windows 2000:
(a) NTFS
(b) FAT12
(c) HPFS
(d) FAT32

Q3. At which level of the OSI model do routers operate?
(a) Transport
(b) Network
(c) Data-link
(d) Physical

Q4. Which of the following would you use to format a disk and make it bootable:
(a) FORMAT /S
(b) FORMAT C: /C
(c) FORMAT C: /s
(d) FORMAT C -S

Q5. Which of the following are features introduced in NTFS 5:
(a) File and Folder level Security
(b) Disk Quotas
(c) Auto-Defragmenting
(d) Support for larger volumes

I cant recall too much on the A+ right now. My head is full of Windows 2000. I've been trying out a few stunts with it. I may have to use it at the university as soon as I get a laptop by next week or so.

hey bud,

thanks for the answers a slight statement to make though:

unhide files and folders, u said "veiw / options"

well where is veiw / options, where about do u find the veiw tab.
the correct answer would either be settings/crtl panel/folder options or tools/folder options.

regarding Gitex i have already been i have a pass, as my brother in law is Managing Director of Microsoft Distributor, he is second place in the IT pyramid just underneith Microsoft so i have already been last few days, its looking good man, real good. New Horizons are there also.

The boss of new horizons Nadeem is a cool guy.

take care buddy and keep in touch

Hi Jamie!

Here's the answer set #00000001:

Q1. Which of the following offers the highest level of performance:
(a) RAID 0
(b) RAID 1
(c) RAID 4
(d) RAID 5
Note: RAID 5 is nice if you want fault tolerance too, but the question only asks about performance so dont make any assumptions, therefore it has to be RAID 0.

Q2. How would you unhide files and folders:
(a) View > Options
(b) Tools > Options
(c) Settings > Control panel > Options
(d) Settings > Tools > View
Note: You noticed that option C is "Options" instead of "Folder Options" therefore it should be option A.

Q3. For an IP address 194.170.1.6, the network address is 194.170.1.0. What is the subnet mask used for this type of network:
(a) 255.255.0.0
(b) 255.0.255.0
(c) 127.0.0.1
(d) 255.255.255.0
Note: The correct answer, as you can see, is option D.

Q4. Which of the following protocols cannot be used with routers:
(a) NetBEUI
(b) IPX/SPX
(c) AppleTalk
(d) TCP/IP
Note: AppleTalk CAN be used with routers. NetBEUI, DLC and a few other really old protocols cannot be used over routers. The answer in this case is option A.

Your score: 7.5
Total : 20
Comments : Man! You've got some serious studying to do before you appear for that exam again.

I'm planning to go to Gitex to get a laptop for the university, but its only a plan. BTW, it starts on the 14th and ends on the 18th so you don't have much time if you really want to go so you'd better hurry. Either way, I have to arrange for a laptop by next week.

hey buddy its jamie, well i suppose i can easily look at my books for the answers but i answered these ones honestly with no book peeking (maybe thats why they are all wrong) :)

Q1----C /Q2----C /Q3----D /Q4----A,C/ Q5----A /Q6----C.

The questions are quite good nitin apart from number 2,thae answer is C but should be "folder options" instead of just "options".

Thanks a lot buddy, keep in touch if u have any more.
When do i get my results, :))))

I don't know why anyone would want to know about my favorite subject, but here goes.......

My favorite subject is one that requires a lot of creativity, plenty of imagination and really bad luck. Creativity is something that can be tapped fairly easily to reveal one's true talent, which I have plenty of. Imagination is yet another one of my specialties as a can often be found in the middle of a class, lost in day dreaming. Bad luck is something not every subject blends well with, which is why I don't do too well in most of my classes. I have so much of bad luck that I can barely spend a day without incidents. So which is my favorite subject, you ask? Of course, it just has to be Creative Writing - that's where I justput onto paper the first thing that comes to my mind and voila! - I get an "A" grade.

Ethical Intel?

I wonder why everyone blames Micro$oft, especially when Intel is around. Microsoft may be all that people call it, but Intel has been engaging in a LOT of fraudulent practices lately.
At an exhibition, Intel employees were found tearing down Via's flags and popping Via's balloons. If that's not enough, they've been suing and counter-suing Via over stuff that was never meant to be. Want more? Okay, Intel has been pushing out all of its competitors in India by forcing them to sell only Intel chips and dump AMD and Via chips.
Microsoft has at least not done anything beyond its ethical values, except for that little thing about screaming out that Novell was about to shut its doors down.
