Mark,

I have read Henry V (thx for your tip), Hamlet, Macbeth, and The Tempest thx to your dad's work. I am looking for a modern english translation of Measure for Measure, do you have any recommendations?

/m94 Thanks for your kind words, Tom. Yes Alan Durband was my father. He translated Shakespeare in the hope that this would be a 'key' for people to unlock the difficult Elizabethan language, and that they would then be inspired to study and appreciate Shakespeare's original work in all its wonderful cleverness and subtlety.

Thx Mark,

We have just discovered the strong Puritan influences on William Shakespeare from IDE Thomas' book "Shakespeare and his Bible" and "Brightest Heaven of Invention: A Christian Guide To Six Shakespeare Plays" by Peter J. Leithart We are a strong Christian family and my children are reading Henry V, Julius Caesar and Hamlet. The influences of the Puritans throughout just these 3 plays alone is remarkable. We are very excited about Shakespeare now and we can not get enough of him.

Was Alan Durband your dad? What a marvelous service he has done for us all by making Shakespeare easy to read! If you don't mind me making a comparison this is as great as the translating of Bach into English so we can now understand and appreciate the music of that great Christian (reformed Lutheran) as well!
