We've been doing it for over a year. It's called Surface Improvement. All small parcels, regardless of class, and priority flats, destined for delivery within a 700 mile radius of our LDC, are dispatched in the same container.

Are any other facilities being forced to combine 1C, Priority, and Parcel Post in the same Priority bags for outgoing dispatch? We began this 2 weeks ago to reduce the staffing in the pouch racks. It's a damn shame when we charge customers to upgrade their mail and then send it out with all other classes with no direct benefit to them. I would be inclined to think this not only unethical but illegal as well. Anyone else run into this problem recnetly with the cut backs in hours?

/m5371 could be any of your guesses and more. I'm married to one that won't retire yet. Waiting on the 41.11 & nearly 4,000 sick leave hours that will add 5 or maybe 6% to the 80%. Will they try force? Possible....think honey and vineger?

A big no to incentives.

Could the closed door BOG meeting next week seek to force out employees who could retire but will not. Are RIF's in near future. Incentives coming soon???

/m5368 Well, golly, who counted the mail, anyway??? That PM sounds foolish. I would just tell the POOM "I inspected his route, I verified his boxes, stops, and mileage, I counted his mail, I timed his activities, I made sure he was working efficiently, it is what it is."

http://www.prc.gov/docs/63/63452/USPS_Cong...rkpapers_FY2010.pdf

From a budget report the USPS sent to the PRC dated June 16, 2009...

Projected employee reductions by end of FY2010:
Clk/MH, 30,268 (out of 275,930 or 11%)
Carriers, 19,456 ( " " 238,480 or 8%)
Rurals, 3,042 ( " " 102,232 or 3%)
Bldg/Plant/Equip 1,665("45,624 or 4%)

???
Postmasters, 315 (out of 31,246 or 1%)
Supervisors, 1004 ( " " 49,781 or 2%)
HQ/Area/Field 115 (" " 13,518 or 0.9%)
???

Obviously, they only plan on minimal reductions for the already bloated EAS/PECS... USPS is toast.

Talked to a rural carrier in a small neighboring town, he went UP and hour from the last count. PM asked him, "how did you do it?" what am I suppose to tell my POOM when he calls? Nothing thought of maybe his volume was up, more boxes and miles mean more time!! But what was the PM trying to get at, that the carrier was cheating, or more cunning and caniving (sp) than the pm? HA

/m5366 Big 3 contracts all have same Art 6. NAPS got nothing like it.

But no one laid off gets to retire till 62 unless there's an EO. IMHO, if there are layoffs, PO would just not offer an EO till it was over.

I think there is a lot of talk about this among the NAPS group.
I heard the same thing in an in-plant support meeting and it was said they are working on the language right now.

I think they'll have to take volunteers and pay them severance first (plus retirement) if Article 6.B.4 is written the same why for the NALC as it is for the APWU. It would be VERY expensive for the post office to lay anyone off!

We have 3 supervisors on the mail processing side and if the OIG came here, happy days for the 204Bs.

Me thinks there are huge problems in the Denver Post Office. Rumors flying about EAS removals/suspensions/etc. for falsifying numbers (imagine that)... word is the OIG wants a total house cleaning? Is this true OIG? I'm sure your minions read these boards (ala. Gestapo & KGB).

The PO needs to go through all categories of employees and take an honest look and see what we can really do with out. Like data collection. That is so stupid. Just WORK the mail and DELIVER the mail! All the other stuff is just a total waste!

Stamper...yes a crazy idea...and definitely one that has not worked for the idiots above us who have been enacting it for quite some time now...

Mail volume has fallen off a cliff.

Here's a crazy idea to raise mail volume.....give deeper discounts to bulk mailers?

Unless your a custodian you cant see the mail decline of the past 1 1/2? Why post any stupid statement when you can't even see your job falling down right before your eyes?

Another stupid poster with nothing to say.
