I realize that currently there are several papers the group is discussing, however, I would like to suggest hep-th/0110167 for the future, if anyone is interested. The title is Dark Energy from Closed Strings in Toroidal Cosmology. This work by Frampton (et. al.) extends some of Roberts work to try explain the Cosmological Constant via string theory compactification.

There has been a sequence of papers recently trying to
realize the standard model, with the right gauge group and matter content, by considering systems of 4-branes wrapped on various
1-cycles of a two-torus, and transverse to a four dimensional
orbifold e.g T^4/Z_3. The latest appeared today hepth/0108131
discussing Yukawa couplings in addition to anomaly cancellation conditions; string scale is supposed to be around a few TeV... would be nice to know what people think of this line of work
