Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of the Postal Service...

Something for PTFs to think about: volunteer to be excessed. You get promoted and a bid route in the other office. (Yeah, you might not be able to afford it, have too many ties locally, your office might turn you down).

MrMailman1207 /m30591 The last one to leave Michigan, please turn off the lights. That's why I left in 2003. You don't have to tell me. I worked at Northwest Airlines for almost ten years, up there. If you don't like your union, then do something about it, besides b*tch and moan on here.

T /m30590 Carriers like you could win a million dollars in the lottery and still find something to complain about. Have you ever heard of a 3996? If your route, or your fellow carrier's route is overburden, then fill one out and let management manage the mail. If this job is really stressing you out, then call EAP, go see a doctor, or quit. And if you don't like your union reps, then run for office and change it.

ARE YOU ANTI-UNION?
"USELESS UNION" talk is just simply throwing darts. Most of us serving as officers locally practically do this as volunteer work with very little compensation. On the national level, the union has been forced to deal with EXTRODINARY circumstances this past year or two. You can't kill the host and survive. We actually DO have to back off on some of our desired requests during times like this. We never want the PO to look as bad as GM.
YOU,as an individual, have almost NO chance of having the work life we have now without the union victories that have kept so many trained postal
dictators from running over your rights. "Scabbing" your way through isn't the answer either because we are still forced to defend you and fight for your work rules and pay/benefits. It just isn,t right. If you are upset with your local steward try to communicate that at the meetings and work to replace him. Dropping out hurts all your co-workers including all the well run locals around the country.

FedUp is feeling a little cranky today but does say some true things to consider. Sometimes we get a little cranky because there is really not as much help from the membership as needed.

Spelling police are here - Extraordinary. Extra and ordinary. It's all about individual carrier knowledge to me. Each carrier should know what any union officer knows so he will feel comfortable on his job knowing he is safe from from management if he knows what he is has to do and what he doesn't have to do. It has always been about survival around here. They hire you and then spend 30 years trying to fire you. I wish I was a better educator.

A million bucks? Nope! I wouldn't complain. Take a chill pill. On or off your perch your point of view will be NEGATIVE!

Abdul-It's not hatred. It is trying to get the union to back the carriers. They seem to think that the postal service is going to fail if they don't cut CARRIER jobs. What about cutting the postmasters yearly Christmas bonus? And it makes no sense,Come up with a contract giving us all these raises and then cut our time because the post office cannot afford it.No its not hatred it is discussing our points of view to try to get the union to do a better job.I will not drop out of the union even though there are times I would love to and maybe someday, if they continue down this road, I may.I would love to see a pay freeze with no chance of backpay.Maybe then (long term) the postal service would see a reduced deficit.

FedUp /m30586, if being steward is such a burden putting up with all the "bitchin' and moanin'" you could always give up your stewardship. Of course you would then be open for excessing but as you say, you would at least have a job, although it's now two states away. You talk of the good old days.... dude you've got 5 years in. You're a joke. And as far as only looking out for myself you're damn right. I learned a long time ago that if you don't nobody else will. Answer my question, how would you feel if a carrier came in who had only 6 months seniority and they were able to take over the position that you've held for over two years? Because that's the position that myself and many other ptf's find ourselves in.

frustrated /m30605 You're so frustrated, you can't even comprehend the English language. Notice in /m30584 that I said (regardless of what company you worked for). I wasn't just talking about those who worked for the P.O. back then. I was talking about anywhere. Any company. And you're still missing the whole point of excessing. Just like it states in Article 12, "Viewed from a broad perspective, the excessing provisions of Article 12 are intended to protect career postal employees by providing a mechanism for reducing the number of career employees faster than is possible through normal attrition." And just because another carrier gets excessed to your office, and takes over the route that you have been opting on for over two years, look at this carrier who had to uproot from wherever they came from. Relocating, etc.. And you still get to go home to your same house, that you didn't have to move from, because you still work in the same office.

JUST GONE /m30577 It's nice to hear you had a nice career. It's nice to hear management never gave you a hard time. You are lucky. Unfortunately, not everybody is able to work(ed) in an environment such as the one you had. In my office, you WOULD have gotten a hard time. Numerous times. Even if you did your job. Nobody is immune from it. Just doing your route here is not enough. You are pushed until it becomes confrontational. Let me explain....two examples for you. 1. Mail is very heavy, so you "pick up the pace". You probably got out a little late, so you went faster and finished on time. Management is going to question why it only took you 5.5 hours on the street with HEAVY mail, and normally its taking you 6 hours.....

Second scenario...You do your route in 8. Management gives you a 30 minute pivot.(to clarify, a pivot is extra work on another route because you alledgedly have downtime on your own) You do the route and pivot in 8. Next management gives you a 30 minute pivot, plus your route, plus they tell you that they need you to help set up another route in the office....you do that, now you get 1 hour pivot.....this continues until you cannot possibly give anymore....and now you are a bad worker and the confrontations start. There is no escaping it here
