Since first reading about this, I've read that Disney is denying the rumors.

I can understand why they might want to keep these plans quiet. Besides possible political backlash (both the right and left distrust China AND despise Disney), there's the matter of real estate.

The land around a parcel that Disney shows interest in would be worth TONS of money. Think of all the cheap motels, crappy giftshops, third-rate attractions, and outlet malls that a Beijing Disney park will need to be just like the U.S. versions . . .

It's the idea that Disney would still be around in 500 years that depresses me. I guess they kept bribing lawmakers to extend the copyright on Mickey, et. al..
