I am currently building a webpage using Frontpage 2000. I am using angelfire.com as a host for my website. My question is...In Frontpage 2000, there is a Dynamic HTML Effects option under the Format Tab at the top. Well i set some of my text to fly in from the right hand side of my webpage when it loads. it worked when i clicked preview to view my site. but when i went to transfer the HTML code to the angelfire.com code section, the text didn't show up when i viewed the page..can anyone explain how i can get this HTML effects to work?? thanks! jason

Why is it that when I log onto my website from work, the webpages I created using a table of the exact same pixel size as my Flash content (800x475 pixels), appear considerably smaller in screen size, pushed up to the lefthand corner with neutral white bordering the right and bottom of the screen? When I view these pages at home, they take up the full screen, with a width of 800 pixels. The monitors at work are the same size, and both use Internet Explorer. What am I doing wrong?

I want to set up some pages in m web site that can only be accessed by certain IP addresses. I have found that I can do this by using the TOOLS>SECURITY function. But when I click on TOOLS, the SECURITY is not highlighted so it is impossible to click on it. I also have the same problem when I try to use the SEND TO DATABASE option in the FORM PROPERTIES, this is also not highlighted.

I am developing a site using Frontpage 2000. I want to test the site completely before I publish it to the web as it will contain secure information. Is there any way of making my PC think that the site has been published so that I can check all the functions that have been included. What do I need in order to do this.
Any help would be great. Thanks

/m66If I said that you must have had some pages or sections with a different font and that font must have been serif fonts.. serif fonts have little curly bits like Times New Roman... sans serif...sans meaning without... are like Arial and don't have them.. on the web it's easier to read sans serif in book form it's easier to read serif. I had a quick look but could not find the serif font, I still find it hard to see the black text on the dark brown. hth Tina http://accessfp.net

Hello All I am in desperate need of help. I created my site www.forsalesearches.com using FP2000 and have just set it up in FP2002 everything working fine. Site works and looks okay.(9 pages) However I made the mistake of never validating my HMTL. When I do it doesnt like certain body, table, img, font etc. code and is not very search engine friendly. I have tried to fix but am not what you would call much of a computer guy. I need help big time fixing this site, and am wondering how when I create another site I can stop these problems from re-occuring or easily fix. Also do my meta tags look right. Can also email me at jasonw@kos.net

M61 hth Tina In Internet Explorer go to. Tools | Internet Options | Colors | Untick the Use windows colours and choose a colour for the background that no one would use like spruce pink click ok twice and refresh the page to your site you will see what I mean. I use this method to check my own pages you would be surprised at how many 'big' sites don't have theirs configured try looking at http://www.yahoo.com/To configure your background in FrontPage. Right click on the background of a page choose Page properties Go to the background tab go to 'Colour's | 'background' and choose your background colour while you are there change the hyperlink colours from automatic as well to the colour of your choice and the text too. Press Ok. Remember to use the same link colours throughout your site so you won't confuse visitors

Gordon, Check the links on your site, the link "Our Company" on the mainpage doesn't connect. Might consider the number of different fonts you're using and select one either serif or non-serif. Good idea, stay the course. Ref /m58

This means that either the graphics are not being pointed to correctly (if you made the theme that might happen) if it's an orginal unlikly.. Or it might be that the theme grahpics are not being uploaded.. are you ftpin with a third party app or using fp to ftp or publish? ... if your using fp ext open the site live and check for your theme on the site... you can always drag the relevent folders across... hth Tina AccessFP - FrontPage Resource Centre Site - http://www.accessfp.net/Journal - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AccessFPJournal

Is there any way of creating a drop down menu using the existing hover buttons, which would open when the mouse is placed over the button and closes when it is moved off it.
I am redeveloping a site which has already been created and I don't want to mess around with the current links too much, is there a simple way of doing this.
I have tried various scripts but none of them worked properly, or were too complicated.

I have some frame pages (contents frame style) two levels down from the in a site I am putting together. Now I can't figure out how to put a link on the page that will take the user back out (and up) of the frame page. A regular link to home or parent pages just brings them up in the other frame. I want a way to back up OUT of the whole frame setup.

Question about positioning: I've designed and viewed my web site on Explorer & Netscape. Note, my site isn't yet on the web...only in my computer. When I view the site in these browers it looks fine in Explorer...until I drag to make the brower smaller. Then my site does a "text wrap" to fit the new size. Is this standard? Should I be concerned? Or will it perform better when I publish to my server (with FP2K drivers)? In Netscape certain pieces are not centered as they should be. Not sure what do to.

Tina, Thanks for your help. I spent all day Tuesday redesigning my site without ABSOLUTE positioning. It now works on Navigator and Explorer. Don't know why Microsoft would design a product that won't work with other browsers. As much as Bill Gates wants to rule the software world, he doesn't. This flaw makes his product sub-par. Perhaps I'm using the wrong web design software. Maybe I should look into Adobe. (Please forgive me while I vent...There...I feel better.)

Ah.. Netscrape does not like style tags.. and does not like postioning style tags in particular.. I'm afraid your going to have to scrap that if you want a netscrape audience...
Don't forget your text links when your using hover buttons for accessbility.. (btw netscrape does not like fp hover buttons either.. sometimes they show up .... sometimes they don't...also fp hover buttons like to eat up your dl time... go for around 20 sec's on a 28k modem.. at the bottom of fp on the right you will see a little icon to help you that ... no more than four images to a page usually is the standard rule.. and don't forget your alt tags...
Did we solve your other problems.. we seem to be moving on to others now:)

My web pages look fine in Explorer...but are waaaaaaaay off in Navigator. Site isn't up yet...still developing. I'll give you a brief description of how it's supposed to look: Banner at top Shared Border. 4 Hover buttons also in top shared border. Down left side I've stacked 4 jpg pictures. To the right of .jpgs, text fills the remaining body of the page. In Navigator, everything looks as though I just tossed it in the air. Any helpful hints will be GREATLY appreciated. Using Navigator 4.6, Explorer 4.? & FrontPage 2000.

Ah I see what you mean now... I was not sure what you meant by text box.. I was thinking you meant a hotspot.. you were talking about an alt tag were'nt you? But your second question confuses me in that case.. So I'll mention how to make an alt tag, a title tag and where to find the javascript equalivent in the hope that covers all your wanting to know:) alt tag Click on the picture to select it right click on the picture select picture properties from the drop down menu choose the last tab and where it says text enter your description using keywords on the page helps with se's btw. Title tag For example WYSIWYG Paste the above code in your html view in the body section, go to preview and mouseover WYSIWYG and you will see a pop up with the text What You See Is What You Get inside. For more information about this with a graphic see: (may wrap) http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/struct/global.html#adef-titleThe above coding is done with html but you can do something similar with JavaScript, however please note that not everyone has JavaScript enabled in ones browser. Visit http://www.bosrup.com/web/overlib/for some neat JavaScript pop up solutions. hth Tina http://accessfp.net/http://anyfrontpage.com/bytes/

I have created an Excel 2000 database which contains a column formattedas a date field. The database has been published to the WEB. Albedo, to transfer a web from one machine to another, use the Publish web command. You can publish to a unc path (\\computername\sharename\folderofwebname) or a mapped network drive if the laptop and the desktop are networked. You can also publish to a zip drive and some cdrom drives if formatted properly to act as regular drives. You then open the web from the portable media on the destination computer and publish to it's hard drive. You can also publish from an Internet website that support the FrontPage extensions to the local hard drive. For more information see Q205729 FP2000: Publishing a Web from a Remote Server to Local Computer @ http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q205/7/29.asp & Q219768 FP2000: Import Wizard Doesn't Import Navigation Structure @ http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q219/7/68.asp & Q301988 FP2000: FrontPage 2000 Publishing Resource Center @ http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q301/9/88.asp. Actually, the database options in FrontPage require at least the 2000 extensions be installed on the server. They do not require a database be in the web already since the form can create one for you once send to database is selected and options \ created database is clicked. Havey is most likely using a server based web that is running FrontPage 98 extensions or is on a Unix server that does not support asp pages. ;)

Can anyone help.
I have published a web using frontpage 200 in the past, but now I am having problems. When I try to publish, I keep getting "Server Hangup" messages. I have checked with my "Web Host" and they assure me that FP Extentions are enabled, and that they can publish to the site OK. When I get to the "Publish bit, it does not ask me for my user ID and Password. I can "SORT OF" publish to the site if I use WS_FTP LE, or if I use the Web Hosts "ftp" address, and then it DOES ask for my user ID and Password. But only some of the information gets there. The background is missing on all pages, and some of the "jpg" images just don't come out. I am using FP2K, IE5.5, Windows 98SE.. My ISP is NTL, and my Web Host is "Bizland" WOuld be grateful for any input. I don't know how this forum works, so just in case, my e-mail addy is bobwatkins@ntlworld.com

Another one on shared borders. Vertical shared border on left contains link buttons to same-level pages in the web. Is there any way I could separate these into two distinct groups of buttons with a space between them? Hi Tina! Thanks for your excellent, quick reply! After several hours working with FP, I realized the meaning of 'shared borders' and how easy it was to delete something from the border on the index page and it went from all the others...obvious really!
I'm now only having a slight publishing problem (connection to site insists that FP extensions are not installed when they are - could it be the proxy server that I am working over?) but apart from that I find FP2002 very quick and easy to use.
Regards, Dave T

Hi Dave T I looked at the templates in fp2000 and there is a corporate template in that one the logo is in a shared border, just click on the logo to select it, delete it and save the page... then the logo will have disappeared from each of your pages providing the logo is also in shared borders for each of the pages... Shared borders mean that for each page that has them .. they share the same border and what you put in there is reflecting on each page.. .the difference being only in the banner names and the navigation bars..that is reflected from the navigation view. If in fp02 that is not the case you can use the code of the logo in find and replace... insert the code in find and leave replace blank... tick all pages and html and click start... it should come up with all instances and you double click on the first one.. it will highlight the code in html on the first page you click replace and then click ok on the box that pops up which says save and move to the next document.. which is what you want to do....but it is far easier to just delete the logo and insert your own if it is in a shared border.. if you want to include your own logo and it's not in a shared border either enter the new coding in replace... or go to each page and insert a include page where you can put your logo.. I would put the include page in a table as it will spread across the page... hth Tina ***NB: NEW FP EZINE AND FORUMS*** AccessFP - FrontPage Resource Centre Site - http://www.accessfp.net/Forums - http://anyfrontpage.com/Ezine - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AnyFrontPageBytes

Hi Glen
Lets deal with the obvious first. First..You have your web open in FrontPage and are connected to the net when you go to File | Publish ?
Let us know that first...

I usually upload my websites via ftp w/no problems. I would like to upload using FP2000 but my "publish button" and "publish" command under "file" are not available or "active". Has anybody ran into that one? Thanks! Glen

I am using FP 2002 and have created a web using one of the standard templates - 'company presence'. Unfortunately I selected to have a company logo placed on every page. Now I want to remove this - can anyone tell me is there an automated way to do this or must I remove it from all pages by hand? Thanks. Dave dave.tyldesley@kvsplc.com

I am using geocities,IE5.0 and fp2000. Recently reformatted and reinstalled fp2000. Everything works fine except when I click the normal tab or preview tab, my site only shows up as a white background whith empty squares representing where all jpegs and gifs should be. The text does show up right, though. My site is fine on the web but not in my tabs. Very hard for editing. Plus preview in browser brings an error forbidden message on the web.
Any ideas? Thanx fitz waterfitz@yahoo.com

George,
Use the onmouseout event handler to stop the video when the mouse moves off of the currently playing movie.

I was wondering if the shared borders could be ASP files so that in some cases the shared border is one thing and in other cases it is another...depending on server information and user input and so forth. Thanks!

Is it possible to create a 1 question poll with FP, that will give results as percentages, on the results page, when you click the submit button?

DISCUSSION WEB PROBLEM - After several attempts, I successfully created a message board for my site ( http://wreckhunter.net) using the FrontPage 2000 Discussion Web Wizard. I can post messages and display them as search results, but the messages don't appear on the Contents page. How can I solve this problem? I'm new at this, so please go easy on me. Thanks for your help.

I have a page with several links to AVI files. Each file is started playing with the following:
<img src="video1.jpg" dynsrc="images/video1.avi" start='mouseover" loop="1">
This starts the video but if the user moves the mouse over another, it starts also and often ends with IE cratering.
How can I stop a playing video when the user starts another?? Thanks

To (11) Ask your webhost if you have anonymous FTP priveleges, then create a subfolder in the public section of your FTP account. Interland.com is one host I know that provides that sort of access, I suggest downloads only to save disk space.

To (9) I've not used db but in my experiance most times that things are greyed out in fp it's because of compatibility. (of course you do have access loaded on your machine?:)... Compatibility Tools | Page Options | Compatibilty Tab | set all boxes to custom and tick everything click ok and say yes when it asks to refresh your web. See if that works Tina http://accessfp.net/

I am trying to create a discussion web (no frames) and all is well but the report says broken hyperlink at disc_post.htm linking to _disc (I did not do or change anything!). I have tried to replace the broken link with disc_toc.htm or _disc/tocproto.htm but does not work when I publish it. What is the correct link and is it a bug in the software?

Are you publishing from a folder based web or from PWS? If PWS is involved, then check what the default homepage setting is. Go to your Personal Web Manager, click Advanced and enter the default pages there.

My home page is index.htm in my Web. I also have all my links from my other pages within my Web pointing to Home as index.htm. HOWEVER, when my site is publishing (not FTP) it says it's "publishing Home Page as index.html."
After uploading, my links are not connecting to index.htm as Home they are pointing to the .html file. ?? Is this Frontpage? or my Server? Server says it is not them.
Any help on how to correct this is appreciated !!

In Frontpage2000 go to HELP, and search for "Format search results" that will get you a start I hope.

Hi,
Not sure how to use this but here goes...
Is it possible to change the format of a FP2K search results page. I need to change the font size and if possible display the name of the page and not the navigation reference
I can't find any resources that tell me how to do this.

********** THE TIP **********
Place the a:hover pseudo-class last
For anchors, CSS offers the pseudo-classes :hover, :visited and :link. These classes let you style the three stages of a link. Use :link to style the link before the user activates it. Use :hover to style the link when the cursor hovers over it, and use :visited to style the link after the user visits it. Typically you'll use all three classes in tandem, like so:
a {border:solid} a:visited {border-color:blue;} a:link {border-color:blue;} a:hover {border-color:red;}
In NN 6.0, though, the :hover pseudo-class won't work properly unless it's the last declaration of the three. In IE 5.5, it simply has to follow the :visited class. However, since cross-browser is more important, simply place it after the other two.
