I would have no doubt on that. I had told Peter about it when I walked around it. I thought it was very strange that the fire department was there, as I jokingly said, they must have been there in case the lawnmower caught a spark and set the field on fire. There were more noises than the lawnmower on that day though. > < replied-to message removed by QT >

Yea, I too got a chance to step on the warning track at Tiger Stadium when they had the auction. Im thankfull the guy fron the auction company let me go out there, but I got the feeling he was getting really annoyed with people asking him if they could go out there.
The city or auction company would have made a ton of money if they would have taken out a liability insurance policy for a few days and charge people $50 or $100 to simply walk around the stadium for a few hours before they started the demolition.
Most people just wanted the chance to go in there for one last time and say their good byes.

While I hate looking at the past, lest not forget the city of Detroit promised one last walk through before major demolition was to begin. My sources told me that people were going to get the chance to walk around the stadium grounds through the outfield gate, go to the mound pitch a ball and stay for a short while and then head out. That was a promise from the city on opening day for the Detroit Tigers on 2008 or the day before, it did not happen. This would have been a nice way to charge some admission and it was thought the OTSC could have used it as a fundraiser. Some say that is why it did not happen, for the DEGC wanted to use it to offset demolition prices. Then others thought it was a huge conflict of interest to do that on opening day, but probably no more conflict then when the Tigers had opening day during Easter weekend this year. > < replied-to message removed by QT >

I went to the second to last game with my daughters. I had box seats near the visitors bullpen and think I paid $8 apiece for the tickets. I can't imagine what those same seats would cost at Commercial Park. And I was real disappointed that they didn't let folks in the the stadium one last time. Proving once again, that city officials are a bunch of liars who absolutely can't be trusted. If they promise they'll preserve the field, it means they have no intention of saving the field.

While I've visited the stadium numerous times to see the Tigers, my only time I ever walked on the field was almost three months ago on March 30. A friend and I were there to visit Peter, Jeff, and a couple members from the Conservency. The security guard seen us walking outside the perimeter of the demo fence snapping photos. He let us in for about 10 or 15 minutes and told us to be quick. Even though it was only the Navin Field portion remaining... I was on cloud nine standing there on the pitchers mound looking up into the stands and over at the vistors and Tiger dugout. Looking up at the two remaining light towers and third deck press boxes from field level was beyond description. Jeff took a picture of us standing in the Tiger dugout. A photo I will cherish the rest of my life. Little did I know this would be the last time I would see the ballpark. I believed in the Conservancy and their mission and had no doubt they would pull it off. But for reasons I'll never understand the DEGC pulled the plug.
As we left the premises we noticed another security person had arrived. I think it may have been the stadium guards supervisor. I hope he didn't get into trouble for letting us in. I went up to him and shook his hand and thanked him for allowing a boyhood dream to come true. I told him if he ever decides to run for president he's got my vote.
What amazed me most was standing on the field itself and thinking of all those famous ballplayers who stood exactly where I was standing. And for those who haven't had that opportunity.... it is still possible providing the city doesn't decide to erase the historic ballfield too.

Lower deck, left field. Right behind my main man Willie Horton when he came out for his curtain call at game's end. Tears filled his eyes and those of many others seated around me.

I had tickets to the last game at TS, but didn't go. My divorce was finalized a couple days before the game. Gave the tickets to my now ex-wife. She took the kids. I wasn't really in the mood. True story. In retrospect; a pretty dumb decision on my part!
My youngest daughter has turned into quite a Tiger fan. We stopped by TS a few weeks ago so she could take some pictures. She said "Dad, me and Mom were here for the last Tiger game". Kind of shook my head and replied "Yea, I know".
Did have the opportunity to walk on the field once. After the 84 WS myself and some buddies bought season tickets for the 85 season. When we went to pick out the seats the salesperson took us out on the field and into the dugouts. Kinda cool, and something I won't forget!

That is an interesting development in the Wings possibly using the Palace. I always wondered why Davidson never brought another hockey league to use the Palace after the Vipers and the IHL went away, but there is a new IHL that formed from the old UHL that Chelios played for a few years ago during the strike.

I went over to MGM Grand Casino this afternoon, I went and parked my car in the parking structure on the 7th level and just had to take a peak at the botched demolition at Michigan and Trumbull. The intresting thing was that I took a look over at Motor City Casino and couldn't help but notice a big rectangular piece of land that was just recently cleared. Click below to see image... http: //satelliteguys.us/metro25/tigerstadium/casino.JPG I did some work in the area about 3 years ago the place was filled with low income apartments. The last time I was in the area last year the apartments where abandoned and the buildings where stripped and there was a fence surrounding the place. There was lots of trees on this property, they have all been recently cut down and the dirt is still fresh as there are no weeds. In addition there is 2 big bull dozers sitting on the property. In the photo, I highlighted the area in question in Red. Also I cut and pasted a picture of the Joe and Tiger Stadium to give you an idea on the size of the piece of land. Its twice the size of Michigan and Trumbull! If I was going to make a bet, Im almost 100% sure this is the site of the new Hockey arena!

For those of you who are interested, Gary Glaser and Karen Bush have just begun work on an epilogue to Glaser's 2006 Tiger Stadium documentary "Stranded at the Corner." Peter Riley, of course, is once again the executive producer. We hope to have the epilogue, which does not yet have a working title, finished by September 27, 2009, the 10-year anniversary of Tiger Stadium's last hurrah.

dont be suprised if the wings move to romulus and build a westside palace since it would be along 94 and get them out of the city which is a risky market to begin with . as for a move to the palace that is an interesting idea however the echl might get in their as im not sure the wings n pistons would make good partners . a big ? just might be what can pontiac do with the s/dome ?
