The demo company is gone, all equipment has been removed including the trailer. The entire site has been cleaned up and graded. The good news is that it looks like they did not touch the field.

BTW the gate is also wide open on cochran :)

To all, Happy Thanksgiving!

We hope our goal for the new year will be to purchase the field.

Those of us who love the old ballpark have been dealt some very cruel blows over the past couple of years, but I can still say I have much to be thankful for because something good came out of this terrible situation.
I've made a ton of friends because of Tiger Stadium.... and that is something Mr. George Jackson can't take away!!!

Here's hoping all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Just thought I'd say Happy Thanksgiving to all those on the Tiger Stadium Forum, whether you were for or against the preservation of this special Stadium, I am thankful for all of the conversations we've had and friends I've made along the way. No matter where you are in this world, enjoy Thanksgiving.

From what I recall about Yankee Stadium is that there was an announcement by George Steinbrenner that when they built the New Stadium, there was going to be an effort to save the original stadium and utilize the bottom sections of the stadium. From what I recall, this idea got scrapped for one reason or another, and then the Save Gate 2 campaign began. On another note, at least Old Yankee Stadium's field is being utilized for baseball in the future, which as of right now Tiger STadium is not even be giving that chance. >

Actually, I'm not surprised there wasn't an effort to save Yankee Stadium. With the major renovations to the stadium in the mid-1970s, there wasn't much left of the old stadium.

I'm sure there were grass roots efforts to save Yankee Stadium, the news probably just didn't make it this far. Just like the OTSC's efforts (for the most part) went unnoticed in NY and other areas. It was amazing how many folks were surprised to learn Tiger Stadium was still standing prior to the beginning of the end in 2008.

And on the other hand, I'm sure there were a lot of people who cared about Yankee Stadium but felt everything was etched in stone and that being actively opposed to its demo wouldn't make a difference.

You would think with the number of fans in NY and the history of the NY Yankees that more people would have put up a fight to save Yankee Stadium.

Seriously, I have not seen a peep from NY fans organizing to save Yankee Stadium. They closed the place down last September, everyone attended the last game and since then nobody has seemed to really care.

Committee to Commemorate
Old Yankee Stadium
__________

SAVE THE GATE
Volunteer Worker Program
___________________________________________

Now that we've won at City Hall - getting an official ruling that Old Yankee Stadium Gate 2 should be saved, if funds can be found:

The Committee to Commemorate Old Yankee Stadium has created, developed and proposed to the City of New York the "SAVE THE GATE Volunteer Worker Program" designed to eliminate all labor costs potentially associated with the saving of the Gate, and other improvements to the new park design for the Old Yankee Stadium site.

Join with other architects, engineers, construction foremen and laborers, iron workers, cost estimators, lawyers, historians, preservationists, painters, masons, waterproofers, safety and security professionals, insurance and contracts experts, among others - all helping to save this irreplaceable treasure.

Help SAVE THE GATE and otherwise transform the Old Yankee Stadium site into the preeminent park its majestic history compels.

The more volunteers the better!!!

All interested parties should contact the Committee to Commemorate Old Yankee Stadium: providing your name, applicable skill, trade or profession - as well as a brief description of the services and number of days you would like to volunteer.

Help make the Old Yankee Stadium site a park worthy of its unparalleled history!!!

Paul:

Unless and until the property changes hands from the City/DEGC to another interested party nothing meaningful about the stadium or a sincere memorial for it will ever take place. The DEGC does NOT care.

George Jackson has already allowed his EGO to destroy a 113 years of Tiger and City of Detroit history. All that remains is for Jackson to kill off the historic field and he will be forever done with this issue which has embarrased and shamed him for some time. He blames this mess of Tiger Stadium on the OTSC simple as that.

Unless someone comes along with more than the $3.8 million that remains in the OTSC coffers it is doughtful that Jackson will work where the money still is.

It is my feeling that the last hope is the OTSC somehow working out a deal with the DEGC if they fail or do not wish to appeal to Jackson which you can't blame them for then they need to issue a statement and fold tent.

My father served on that board with Ernie Harwell for 6 months he left the board when it became clear to him that the DEGC had no intentions of working with the OTSC to succeed with this historic restoration and development and were just using the OTSC for political cover or someone to blame months later that's just how it ended. At 82 my father is a wise man its always been very clear to him how it would all end but sad none the less for us.

Its up to us to demand more and I hope the NEW film my company is working to produce will create a climate to demand just such change. "Force Out" How Detroit Lost Tiger Stadium coming soon on DVD!!

  Have a pleasent holiday!

Here's what makes me scratch my head.

Why doesn't the DEGC get an appraisal on the property and then offer it to the OTSC. If the OTSC doesn't have the money, then so be it. Then everyone can move on.

The solution seems so simple. But I keep forgetting, this is Detroit.

Geez!

George Jackson has proven he can't be trusted when it comes to Tiger Stadium or the ground where it once stood. He has been very smug toward the OTSC and those who support it.

Last I heard there was supposed to have been a meeting this past Tuesday among Conservancy members. Again, complete silence.

Paul I to made contributions to the OTSC and have encouraged the OTSC to pursue a plan to save the Field. As of right now, I have not seen a publicly known plan, only rumbles, so my statement is hoping that somebody comes to the plate and proposes a plan. As of right now, the DEGC still owns the land. As some say there lies in the problem, "what is the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results". I hope that Jackson is true to his word as he said publicly that he hopes to put some form of Memorial up, but I hope he actually does it with those who cared most for the place. That is what I hope to see.

I'm using a part of your recent post to make a point. "the land may sit there, unless someone or SOME ORGANIZATION comes to the rescue".

Wasn't that what the OTSC was all about? You know, coming to the rescue.

Many on this site, including me, have made contributions to the OTSC.

Since the OTSC is a non-profit organization, shouldn't their records be public information to all concerned?

Still don't understand it all.
