How this could be used by a classroom teacher-
Example: Biology Teacher posts this question-
Why is it important that adults are aware of the various genetic disorders? How is this information and research important to legislators, lawyers, adoption agencies, the Food and Drug administration, OSHA?

The teacher could even assign this as part of their homework with points assigned for contributing to the discussion. THIS TYPE OF ASSIGNMENT IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF INCORPORATING HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILLS. In addition it requires going beyond the textbook and memorization of facts, it would add more writing in the content area (BIG DEAL FOR ENGLISH REGENTS PREP.)

Great, Student 1, food labeling and the FDA (check your spelling for phenylalamine on any can of diet soda)

So in a sentence, FDA needs to know about genetic disorders because....

FDA needs to know about genetic disorders because...
they make rulings on what goes on food labels. There are enough people affected by the genetic disorder who could die because they didn't know that Phenylalamine was in the food product. Knowing the facts helps the FDA decide what's important to put on the label to warn people.
