WELL I AM NOT GIVING UP. I HAVE A FEW FRENDS ON CAPITAL HILL AND I WILL TRY TO GET TO SPEAK TO THE ARMED SERVICES COMMITTEE. AND THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR. I TJONK SHE COULD AND SHOULD BE DECLARED A NATIONAL LANDMARK. WE THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION PAID OVER 2 BILLION DOLLARS AT 1983 PRICES AND THEM ASKING FOR THE CIVILIAN COMMUNITY. TO PAY AT LEAST 30 MILLION MORE DOLLARS ON THIS COUNTRIES HISTORY. THE TICONDEROGA IS THE LEAD SHIP OF THE CLASS THAT STOPPED THE COLD WAR, BEIRUT, KUWAIT, IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN. OPERATIONS. THERE IS NO,NONE MODERN SHIP/S THAT REPRESENT OUR CONTRIBUTION TO OUR NATIONAL DEFENSE. THEY WANT TO UD HER IN A SINKEX, BIG DEAL, ANYONE CAN HIT A POWERLESS ANCHORED SHIP. ASK THE JAPANESE, AND THEY DID NOT HAVE RADAR OF ANY TYPE. JUST MK 1 EYEBALLS. IF THEY WANT TO MAKE HER A REEF THEN THEY WILL SPEND MORE ON RIDDING IT OF HAZMATS AND ONLY CERTIFIED WRECK DIVERS CAN GO DOWN ON HER. HAVING HER AND POSSIBLY THE JFK AND THE IOWA, WHICH WAS RECOMMISSIONED. I WILL FIGHT TILL MY LAST BREATH TO SAVE HER THESE SHIPS COULD ALSO BE USED IN DISASTOR RELIEF. FINALLY, EVAERY TIME WE SHRINK OR DOMESTICALLY DESTROY OUR MILITARY. COL. BILLY MITCHEL GOT COURT MAREDTIALED FOR SAYING THESE WORDS BUT AFTER DECEMBER 7 HE WAS EXHONORATED, PROMOTED BUT HE DID NOT KNOW IT BECAUSE HE WAS ALREADY DEAD.
p.s. ALSO THE ARMY AND AIRFORCE HAVE THEIR OWN MUSEUMS AT MANY CAMPS, FORTS, AND BASES. HELP GET THE WORD OUT TO SAVE OUR NAVAL HISTORY. I WILL RODE MY WHEELCHAIR TO D.C. FROM CALIFORNIA TO GET THE MESSAGE OUT IF I HAVE TO.

Hey Boats!
Great to hear from you. It was a good time and we had the best seats in the house for all of the fun. I was just thinking this week that as great as the technology was, just imagine what we have out there now. Wow..
Take care.

I'm an old friend trying to locate Charles "Chuck" Reeves -- from Mississippi. He would have served on the Tico around the mid-to-late 80's? (memory fuzzy).
If anyone knows him, or if he checks in here, please ask him to email me at shester@aoce.msstate.edu.
Thanks!

You know, for all of those that we had, they will never take the place of that one September night... "FIRE, FIRE, FIRE. Class Alpha fire in compartment 02-129-0-Q, Helocopter Hanger..... Shortly followed by, GENERAL QUARTERS, GENERAL QUARTERS! All hands man your battle stations. We didn't really need to sleep that night, anyway....

The USS TICONDEROGA Veterans's Association has updated its website. Please go to www.bigt.net and check it out. A copy of our latest newsletter is there for you to see/download. You will see our annual reunion is in June in San Francisco this year. A trip to the USS HORNET is planned and we will visit our museum room on it. We have a good CG display area in the room. We are looking for some CG crewmemebers to join the Association and to start coming to the reunions. You will have a good time. If you have anything you want to submit for inclusion in a future newsletter we would welcome it as well as any CG memorabilia for the museum. Newsletter has the obituary of the Father of AEGIS, Rear Admiral Wayne E. Meyer. Check out the CG Decom memorabilia on the ship store page. Ed Trotter CVA-14 62-65 etrotterzzzz@verizon.net

Being decon.so early in her life is a shame but your right Brother Hill, cause that night could have easily been worse than decon. Do you remember who the b.m.o.w was that made that annoucement ---- it's strange but I think I do -- Ivan -- and he wasn't dull and boring that night!

All,
I've been given some more specifics on Tico's situation. This comes courtesy of Capt Nick Richards, USN (Ret) - a board member of the museum. It was sent to me by Ross Cox. Thanks to him, Hank Morris, and Captain Richards for keeping us informed.
● Right now the focus of the Mississippi Maritime and Warship Museum is to get a building built first. The least expensive option to get the Tico to Mississippi in a mooring alongside the building is $29M. With the economy today, that is quite a challenge.
● There are new Navy requirements related to custody transfer that adds to the challenge. The hull has to be waterborne in its moorings with sufficient clearance under the hull to conduct repair and cleaning operations, unlike the USS ALABAMA in Mobile which is in the mud and no one wants to guess the hull condition.
● Also, the mooring has to be able to withstand a Category Five Hurricane, which is absurd.
● No one is able to accurately predict what's going to happen with a monster of that size and the only way to achieve that is to move the Tico up river to maybe Jackson or Vicksburg .
● Predictions are that it may be awhile yet; certainly the economy needs to recover and no more major hurricane hits for a few years before it could happen.
● The basic engineering study is done and there is slow movement keeping things alive.

Ahhh yes. BM2 Clyde Ivins, whose favorite thing to emphasize was "Lt Bush, dial one one (wait for it) ZERO ZERO" whenever the XO called in a bad mood....... That was when he was the happiest of all.

Hey guys I servered on TICO from April 85 thru November 88. I saw alot and did alot. I would like 2 hear from other shipmates from that time or to be honest any1 who served on her. I did some research online 2day and I found some pics of TICO and I hateb 2 say it but she looks really really bad. These pics almost made me cry. LOL A great ship sitting there rusting away to nothing. I hope they can save her soon. I have been dwnloading pics off the net also, so if anyone here would like a cd or 2 with pics of her let me know. I can sent u them for a small few plus shipping.
Long Live TICO CG 47
