"In 1983 we took a little trip,
Along with Captain Guilbault on a mighty AEGIS ship...
We took alot of missiles and we brought alot of gas,
and crossed the mighty ocean just to kick some commie ass.."

My how time fly's! The First and Flammable will always be a part of me!

All those who road the TICO as it turned and churned, GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Hello Shipmate, good to hear from you! I left Tico in 85 and went to a bubble head shipyard in Kittery, Maine. Only SW up there with those bubble heads. Admiral Guilbault called my CO and wanted to speak with me. The CO got the XO and his secretary to advise me of the phone call from an Admiral. That stirred them up. What was an Admiral doing calling for a Chief. We had a pleasant coversation and I told him I missed Tico and I would love to take her back or take on a new version. I got married in Maine and returned to Norfolk, Little Creek to be exact and took on an LST USS Sumter. It was an old but good ship and had to deal with the Marines onboard. Left that ship and yes it got Decommed as well and took on the DESRON TWO Medical position. I had 36 ships to assist, train and inspect. One of them was Tico. I loved going back aboard her. Interesting thing as the CO was a Commander. I retired in 1994 and went back to college to get ready for Med School. At least that is what I wanted to do. I took a job as a paramedic at the Norfolk Ford Assembly plant and gave up Med school as the pay and benefits for me and my family was outstanding. Then the bastard (William Clayton Ford III) closed the damn plant in Norfolk where I was for twelve years. Went to work in a new emergency room for Sentara by the Amphitheater and also went to Nursing School. Graduated as an RN and now working a stroke unit at Virginia Beach General Hospital. I will stay there for the next ten years or until my daughter finishes college and then I think I will semi-retire and enjoy what life I have left. My daughter and I will be going up to Philadelphia soon to see the old girl before they move her or turn her into razor blades. Have a great day shipmate, I miss you and all of the plankowners. Fair winds and Following Seas Shipmate. I remain, Michael A. Blair HMC(SW) USN Retired.

Mike it sure ws good to get an update from you. I remember you well! SH2 Alexander at the time, I ran the laundry and the barbershop for a short time. Finished my career in Oct of 96. I am living back in Michigan In Oscoda right on Lake Huron. I was just laid off from my job as an Airframe Technician at the old Air Base here, so now it's time to look for something to do or hope to get called back as soon as things begin to turn around in the Aircraft business. Give me a shout when you can!

So nice to see Mssrs Kirby, Alexander and Blair on here this week. Mike, thanks for the update on your life after Tico. I knew that you were at the Ford plant and thought about you when they closed it. Hard to believe it's been 24 years since we made Chief during the North Atlantic/BALTOPS cruise. I'll never forget sitting on the deck in sick bay, tied to the bulkhead to keep from sliding around and playing golf on the Intellivision.
Good memories. You guys were great shipmates. I was fortunate to have spent a few years of my life with you.

Clint good to hear from you also! Hope all is well with you and you are doing ok. Myself&#A0;I am doing fine. I spent a lot of my time looking in on my parents who also live here in Owscoda, Michigan along with one of my brothers. Some times it can be a challenge but the 2 of us seem to keep things on an even keel here.

Hiya bill,
Looking for the standard Ship Patch that has the Tico Crest on it. I knew when I left that this was gonna come back and haunt me one day from not grabbing one from the Ship's store. But then again, didn't think they would have decommissioned it either.
Thanks for your help!
Darren

I just stumbled across this website. Good to hear from QMC Clint Hill. I see Mr. Blair is still practicing medicine. I always knew he was just practicing. Teresa and I are now empty nesters. I'm surprised she hasn't left, too. Don't know how she puts up with me. Don't know how Mike did for that matter. Good to hear from you all. Dan dphubs1@yahoo.com
