To Ken Pullun with referance to our conversation i would like you to call me with the details on the specialist that does \the intacs operation and is there anyone out there who has had intacs fitted for kerataconus. If so wasit sucessful ?

Oh, I'll gt round to getting over there and getting stuck in
some time! I've been rather busy, not to mention totally
stressed out recently with some new tenants in the flat above me who play music with a loud thudding bass at all hours - it's
been like living inside a drum, because the thud-thud-thud comes straight through the ceiling. It's been driving me mad, not to
mention giving me a semi-perpetual
throbbing-headache-about-to-turn-into-a-migraine, chest pains
(the never-ending beat is like having a heart pacemaker going at the wrong speed - it jsut goes straight through you!) .....
plus a few other things going on, so the new discussion page
hasn't yet made it to the top of the To Do list.

Will get there some day....

I don't think KC per se will affect the iris image. It's
possible that after a graft a new image may prove more reliable, though it shouldn't change the iris patterns themselves.

What does concern me, though, is that apparently part of the
process is to shine a red light in your eyes, so it can check
that the pupil contracts in the light (because a "fake" trying
to beat the system wouldn't - so anyone with a false "glass
eye" will immediately trigger all the alarms!). And that might
be a problem for someone with severe light sensitivity.
  
Though what's more worrying at the moment is the prospect of
having to have one's photo taken on arrival - no doubt
flashbulbs popping all over the place and airports becoming a
no-go area (sigh!)

I hope you are well and not finding the brighter weather and the photophobia too much of a pain.

I wondered if anyone has any idea how those of us with Keratoconus and/or Corneal Grafts will fare if the notion of Iris scan identification is seriously introduced? Presumably the view of the Iris is altered by the disease of by the graft, or minor scar tissue. Perhaps we may need updated Iris scan images on our passports, driving licences or any other form of ID which the government decides we must have.

don't be worried by all the details about lenses surgery etc Paul, if yu can see well then I would say Not For You!
The kc site has a lot of members with more severe problems, and, in my experience of support groups, it's the people with more difficulties that are searching for more help therefore are more vocal!
perhaps we should start a new topic 'young people with kerataoconus' to share issues - not me, you, Im well past young!

If your vision is adequate for your needs, then I don't see why
you should have to wear any correction. But please do be sure
that you really can see as well as you need to - for example,
check regularly that your eyesight meets the legal standard if
you drive, and f it doesn't, don't drive till you've got the
glasses/contacts to make it so.

Im 23 and not keen on the whole contact lense idea. I was hoping i could maybe wait till im middleaged when the condition wont be getting any worse
