The Coulee Region Jugglers (the La Crosse, WI area juggling club) will be meeting again shortly. Stay tuned for details! In the mean time, if you're a juggler or unicyclist in the La Crosse area and you're interested in getting together with the club, post a note here to say 'hi' and let us know what your specific interests are. You can also subscribe to this discussion. Click "subscribe" above to receive new posts by e-mail.
Also: The 2001 IJA summer festival (the biggest juggling festival in North America) will be in Madison! Check out www.juggle.org (the IJA web site) for more info.

Hey everyone. Those of you who don't know me, my name is Dan. Paul and are old members of the club. After schedules conflicted for just about everybody attending the club so a few months ago we shut it down. Paul apparently had a little more ambition to get it restarted than I did, but I'm DEFFINATELY all for the idea!!
With regards to the 2001 IJA festival, let me just say that if your like me and you haven't been to one before, you should MAKE PLANS TO BE THERE!!! They aren't in this area often, so make sure you can make it when it's so close to the Coulee Region.

acrylics: worth the money or just flashy hype? i ask because i am now awaiting three 3 inch acrylic balls in the mail and i paid..........well lets just say i paidmore then 50 and less then 90. so if anyone owns some please give me your opinions. BTW i really wish i could join a juggling club but alas i live in a small town in Fl where juggling is thought of as "haveing way to much free time". perhaps their right perhaps not we shall see.

Shiro,
I've juggled acrylics, but I don't own any. That said, I think they look very sharp for up-close peforming, showing some tricks to a few people at once. I don't think they'd make a good prop for any kind of stage work due to visibility, and I don't think there's anything particularly great about the feel of acrylics for toss juggling, which is why I've never bought any myself. For juggling in the air I prefer la crosse balls or stage balls. Of course acrylics are popular with contact jugglers, especially for spinning 3 or more in your palm.
Too bad you're so far away - We'd sure like to have you at our club. Thanks for visiting us on-line!

Reminder - Anyone who wants some juggling beanbags, bring some fabric to the club meeting! I'll bring in some patterns and we'll get some beanbag panels traced and cut out this week.
Also, save any 20 oz and 2 liter plastic pop bottles you can! The home-made clubs (Jon Poppele's design) work well and are pretty easy to make. I made an experimental torch using his design for the handle, and alluminum from a couple pop cans to protect the wick end of the dowel, and to make a fire barrier between the wick and the handle. I used old denim for the wick and after 6 burnings it's holding up very well. It handles a lot like a professional torch, but those cost $30 and this cost about a buck to make. I'm sure an Infinite Illusions torch will outlast one of these, but if anyone is interested in juggling torches the home-made route may be a decent option.
Cheers!
Paul

We are having a amateur talent show at Hylandale, Saturday night, April 7. Vespers will be at 6:30, talent show at 7:00. From La Crosse, get off I-90 at Bangor exit 15 (Hwy 162). Go North on 162 into bangor, (Follow County B) Turn right at the first stop sign. Then just as you get to the edge of town turn right on B. Follow B about 3-4 miles to a T with J. Turn Right on J. (you are about a mile south of rockland) After about 2 miles on J, follow J to the right (Y goes straight and then turns left) Follow J up the valley about 3 miles to Hylandale. You will go past Kirking road and Pierce road on the left Hylandale is about 1 mile past pierce road on the right.

I'll be late this week. I've got an appointment Thursday, but I'll come to the club when I'm done. Hopefully I'll be there by 8. There were requests last week for beanbag filling and the juggling club handle pattern, so I'll bring those along with some plastic bottles for anyone wanting to make clubs.

Let's go outside! Starting this week let's meet at the gym at the usual time, then by around 7:15 if it's nice out let's move the gathering to a park. Myrick has a nice stage and always lots of kids around, Riverside has the bandshell, and there's also a smaller park just a block from the gym, accross from the library. We'll pick a park and leave a note on the wall of the gym saying where we're going in case anyone arrives late. Outside we should have plenty of room, and the opportunity to do some fire juggling, and provide a little entertainment for fellow park-goers. That's a good way to generate interest in the club and meet other jugglers and unicyclists in the area who probably don't know the club exists. See you Thursday!

The Hallocks will not be there this week, We are riding our unicycles to campmeeting. It is about 90 miles total. Your welcome to join us for any part, if you can find us. We are starting from home (just south of Rockland), between 7 and 8 am Wed, 6/13, bike trail to Sparta, County Road A from just outside of Sparta to New Lisbon, then 43third and 44th street to Castle Rock Lake, we'll cross the river on 82, then work our way back up to Elk Ave and follow it over to till we get to Camp Go Seek (almost to Westfield), stopping where-ever. actually we do have some friends near castle rock lake that are letting stay in their cabin.

Enjoy the unicycle ride! If you get the chance, take some pictures and I'll get them on the club web page. The page really needs freshening up. I got some good shots and short videos from last weeks club meeting of the kids unicycling down the rocks in the park, so I'll put some of those up soon too.
Dan and I will be at the club, but mostly we'll be practicing. We've got a show Friday night and we haven't done the show material in almost 2 months - time to shake the rust off.

We had great ride. They rode all the way to the cabin (60+ miles)the first day. We started about 7:40AM and arrived about 8:20PM. Thats roughly 5mph average including all stops and breaks. The second day we rode 35 miles, That was harder than the first day, If it hadn't been for heavy thunderstorm, I think we would have had to take a really long rest stop. When the thunderstorm came they just kept on riding, the coolnes and excitement completly revived them, and by the time we arrived at camp they were doing just fine. Tyson was riding his new giraffe(geared up to about a 42" wheel), Brennan rode the original giraffe (geared up to about a 32" wheel). Trever rode the 28". Brennan and Trever Tended to ride about the same speed, Tyson would have liked to ride a lot faster. We also did a "Good Samaritan skit" and demonstrated a few unicycle and juggling skills for the teen(13-15) and the primary(7-9) tents at campmeeting. We won't be there this week either, expect to be there next week. Rickle

Hi there. I was doing a search and found your site. I have a Juggling Club and my close friend does as well. We are in NY, and I was wondering where you are from. I'm always looking to improve on my skills, and to learn MORE TRICKS...:) I was wondering if your group was going to the IJA festival this year in Reading, PA. If so, I would love to meet you all. At the end of last weeks club meeting, we talked about getting out in a park this week to do some juggling & unicycling outdoors. We'll meet at the gym until 7:15 or so, then (weather permitting) drive to Myrick. We'll use the area around the stage.
Hope to see you tomorrow!

I invited Aaron Garcia, the juggler in the Star Family Circus, to join us at the club tomorrow. Their circus is performing at Riverfest, and they'll be done with their last show of the day by 5:00. It sounds like he'll probably make it. If he does come, we might want to stay at the gym this week. Also what we said we'd like to do at a park is put on a casual show, and maybe this isn't the best week for us to do that. There won't be many people to entertain at any park but Riverside this week, and we can't really just show up and put on an unscheduled show at an event like that.
Anyway, I think we should probably wait till next week to visit a park.

Hey all, sorry about not letting you know we wouldn't be there last meet. We ended up getting hustled out of the house before we had a chance. We wanted to let you know neither of us will be there this week either. We should be back the week after though. Talk to you later!

Another message to the club about a uni ride planned for next summer: Hello Coulee Region Unicyclers!, I am contacting unicycle clubs about an upcoming unicycle tour. I am planning a charity unicycle tour of the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan late next summer. We are looking for riders! I am currently beginning to formalize arrangements with the Women's and Children's Ward of Marquette General Hospital as the recipient of the donations we raise. Would you please be so kind as to pass this link on to any of your members that might be interested in touring with us? The website has much information about the tour and the UP. Are there any other Wisconsin uni clubs that I should be contacting? http://MissingWheels.unicyclist.com Also, being new to planning such events, I am wide open to suggestions and ideas. Thank you very much. Have a good day! Erik Jensen ( age 20) and Nick Langseth ( age 21) learned how to juggle four years ago. After watching a friend perform, and even juggle fire, they decided juggling was neat enough to learn. Picking up three balls they started to practice what would soon become a major part of their life. After many, many hours of practice the brothers had worked their skills up to the point of juggling clubs, knives, and fire. After a year of practice, and a little prodding from their parents, both brothers decided to take their skills on the road and show people what was possible in the realm of juggling. Approaching Big island rendezvous, an event they had gone to for years they asked to be able to juggle for the crowds. When asked what their name was, a little nervously they spouted out as a lark, The Amazing Budabi Brothers, and so the group was born. After a smashing success at Big island they continued to book events all around the country from their home base of Houston, MN. As they traveled their eyes were opened to even more amazing things that could be done with the art of juggling.
Meeting a fellow juggler Dan Kirk, the pair learned as much as they could from him, and received a generous gift from him as well. Asking nothing in return Dan gave them a great deal of juggling equipment he no longer needed. With his help, The BudabiÂs expanded their skills much faster then they would otherwise have been able to do.
Joining a juggling club In La Crosse Wis, the brothers quickly picked up even more skills. Dabbling in Unicycles, Balancing and DiabloÂs, and always improving their juggling.
The Amazing Budabi Brothers continue to ÂWow crowds, and teach juggling all across the country.
Your slightly eccentric friend, Erik;)

Hey, everyone. Been a long while since I've been to the club. Things are going well for me here in Madison. I'm back in college now, chasing down a Political Science major. Anyways, thought I'd let you all know that I've finally started my new juggling webpage. It's really lame at this point, but hopefully it will become something interesting eventually. It's at http://www.karnage.netI'll probably be at the club over my spring break. Can't wait to see everyone. Danny Karnage danny@karnage.net

My small orange ones are from the 2.25 pattern, and they're only about 3/4 filled, maybe even a little less so they're actual size is a little under 2.25. You could bring in the seam just a touch, too. If you come in 1/16th of an inch from what the pattern reccomends you would reduce the size by 1/8th of an inch.

I think I should check this more often then I do. 1) Dan! That's awesome! I hope things are going really well for you! What made you decide to go with Political science? I think it's a good choice, I really enjoyed what clesses I've taken on the subject and considered that major myself. 2) I swear Paul, you could make a small fortune just off of selling those balls just to this juggling club. To keep us supplied you probably have to be chained to a sewing machine and given a suger cube everyday, but we'd all have cooler props because of it. 3) Ali, Hi! I'm half of the Budabi Brothers, and I'm glad to know you enjoyed our show! I'm also surprised you were able to track down this message board! If you want, you can contact us more directly eith through our e-mail Knifethrowers@hotmail.com or our MySpace http://www.myspace.com/budabibrothersI hope this information is useful to you, and I appreciate the flattering remarks. Thanks! 4) Hey Trevor, it's Floride. The Chemical is Floride. I am the bane of brainfarts!
