I came late to the class Wednesday and was wondering if anyone knows if the 2 sheets of handwritten notes for the final can be on both sides of the paper??

Proff is there a chance we could get the solutions to the last two assignments. They would really help. Thank you!

So are the answers going to be posted? I would find the solutions to the last individual assignment most helpfull as it was not discussed in the review session.

Yeah, it would be nice to know if the solutions are going to be posted. I guess none of the TA's are checking the messasge board. Is anybody listening?

I think the solution for IA5 is ready. Bertram will post them soon. But I doubt if there will be a solution for GP3.

Professor, could we type our notes instead of handwriting them? I already typed it and i only occupies 1 side. I don't want to have to handwrite it. Thanks.

Yeah, typing up the cheat sheet will make it much easier, I have two finals on Friday. Typing would save me lots of time.

What's the difference between procedures and functions?

re: 248. typically functions return a value, but procedures do not.

Solutions to or comments on the recent assignments are on the class page now!
Regarding the HANDWRITTEN NOTES FOR THE FINAL: apart from fairness reasons (not everybody may read the board before the final), there are also others reasons to allow only handwritten notes. In particular, it helps refresh the material while writing it down -- an effect that cannot be easily achieved by copy paste...

I assignment 5 #1c how does B become 3? I keep getting the output to be: 2 1 2 instead of: 2 3 2

Hi Gabe, The output with dynamic scoping is indeed "2 3 2". When procedure p1 is called by p2, it is the local variable B declared in p2 that is updated within p1. So executing statement B:=C in p1 changes Blocal (and not Bglobal) from 2 to 1. The B variable that is output on the other hand is the global B which is still of value 3 ( assigned during the first execution of p1). Hopefully, this helps.
