If anyone is looking for a private drumset and percussion teacher, I'd like to recommend Sean Kopp. He has been our daughter's teacher since her Oakton days (she's at ETHS now), and we think he's terrific. You can email him at seankopp (at) gmail.com or call 773 472 1045. Replace the (at) with @ for his email address.
Also, I have a big stack of Box Tops for Schools saved. I'm in the 100 Block of Asbury. If anyone wants to pick them up, you are welcome to them. Email me at richard (at) petheatre.com

If anyone is interested in helping Oakton without spending any extra money, here's how you can do it. We are selling "Scrip Cards" which are grocery gift cards. You buy them in advance in $25, $50 or $100 increments and Oakton gets back 4-7% of what you purchase them for. We sell them for Dominicks, Whole Foods and Starbucks.

Here is an example. If you buy a $100 gift card, you get the $100 gift card for the exact cost, but Oakton gets $4-7 of that $100. We take orders once a month and deliver the cards on the 1st Friday of each month.

The next order is due Friday, Dec. 19. You pay with cash or check in advance. The check will be cashed on Dec. 30, and you'll have your card on Friday, January 9.

Please contact me directly if you're interested. I can drop off cards to those who purchase them. julieort@hotmail.com This is a great way for the school to make money, and, as always, it goes to fund new and existing programs at the school.

Thanks!!

Dear Oakton Parents & Evanston Community Members,

As we all struggle with this tragedy, we felt it best to reschedule For
the Love of Oakton, and so we will not hold this event on Saturday,
February 7.

We look forward to coming together as a community to show our love for,
and support of, Oakton in a few weeks. We will let you know the new
date as soon as we can.

Our best to everyone,
Oakton School's Artist-in-Residence Committee

Hi everyone! I am emailing you to let you know about the upcoming Kindergarten Meet & Greet hosted by my husband and I. For the past two years, Rob and I have hosted this informal get-together for people who are in the Oakton District, who either have children starting Kindergarten this fall, or the next.

It is a chance for parents to ask questions, meet current Oakton parents, as well as other incoming Oakton parents.

If you have an incoming Kindergartener and would like to attend, please email me at julieort@hotmail.com.

Thanks,
Julie

Thank you to everyone who came out in support of Oakton School on Saturday for the 2nd annual "For the Love of Oakton." It was a fabulous event, and it was so nice that so many members outside of the Oakton community attended. Thanks to the PTA Presidents from Dewey and Lincoln for coming with their children! I also saw spiritwear from Washington School, and I know some neighborhood families who attend St. A's were there, as well.

School Board members, Andy Pigozzi and Katie Bailey, were there, as was School Board candidate, Tracy Quattrocki.

The best news of all.. we were able to raise enough money to bring Striding Lion back for our Artist-in-Residence for the 3rd year in a row! Next year, the 6-week residency will focus on science--how living organisms work. They incorporate the curriculum into their art.

As for Ald. Rainey's donation of the pedi-cab for the Bike the Ridge event.. looks like Jay Schwartz and his family will be strolling along next fall... they are the lucky winners! Thank you, also, to Apple the Second, the Howard Street boutique... your lovely items were a hit! Thanks for your donations!

Thanks again..

I want to congratulate our own Oakton School's Battle of the Books team, who placed third in the district after a tie and sudden-death mini-battle with Orrington. Terrific work, Oakton!

Congratulations as well to Orrington (2nd) and Bessie Rhodes (1st)

More congratulations to another winner from Oakton School:

Oakton student Sarah Johnson won first place in the third grade category in the Keep Evanston Beautiful, Inc. essay contest.

Her essay, along with the other winners' essays, will be published in an upcoming edition of the Evanston Roundtable. Many thanks to her teacher, one of Oakton's finest, Monica Ornelas.

Oakton is amazing - congratulations Karen!

I was invited to Oakton PTA the other night and I have never met a more committed group of tireless parents who appear to volunteer from morning to night.
