In reply to the Vicknair request posted by Dee Hall - check the St. John The Baptist and St. James Parish websites under families for information on this family. You should find the information on Johann Nicolas Henry Wichner who is the progenitor of all Vicknairs (or most anyway). The website is http://www.angelfire.com/la3/vicknairfamily/index.html.The name Wichner is German. In German, the W is pronounced like a V. Since French was the common language in South LA, the French pronounced Vichner (sic) as Vicknair. Many names in Livingston Parish are German or Spanish but French pronunciation has made these names sound more French than they really are.

I am trying to locate anyone who is a descendant of Joseph Octave Vicknair and Eaise Berthelot...French Settlement, LA...children were, Jesse Vicknair,
Lillian (Vicknair) Pfister, Ella Mae (Vicknair) Hall, Elmo Vicknair, Joseph Vicknair, Gentry Vicknair...Are there any descendants from these families?
Does anyone know of a Vicknair family reunion? Trying to find the history of my husband's family to share with our children...Where they came from and from whom they descend...? Thanks for any information,
