@Jerry: I posted your announcement regarding the 50th anniversary of the class of '62 on the Pius alumni website, http://piusxalumni.com/. When the time comes, I hope you would be willing to share your project on the website. I'd be more than happy to help you to accomplish that. Best of luck!

Fratres,
June 2012 marks the 50th year since we graduated from Pius X Preparatory Seminary.
I invite you to take part in a project marking the passage of that half century.
In 1962 we could not see what lay before us. Now, perhaps, we can review what is behind us.
I am asking you to trace your interior journey since that June, especially in terms of what you believed then and what you believe now, how your views of life and God and the RCC have changed, deepened, departed, etc.: your beliefs then, now and in between.
Were there milestones in the journey? Do you recall people, experiences, books, classes, etc. that you now see as pivotal for you?
Would you be willing to do that review in 1200 words or less and email the essay to me? My plan is to gather these recollections, perhaps organize them thematically, proof and edit if necessary and if you are not insulted, and create a CD that all of us can share.

Mike, while I was attending Infantry Officer Candidate School in 1967 at Fort Benning, Georgia, I met Vinny Treanor who was also an OCS student there. In fact, we were in the same OCS battalion; although he was further along in the course than I was and received his commission a month or two before I did. And, in October of 2009, I met Paul Fulford and Ed Linehan at the St. Pius X reunion Mass held in the chapel at the school in Uniondale. The chapel was in reasonably good condition. The rest of the school was in a terrible state of abuse and disrepair. Other than those three men from our class, I've had no contact with anyone else.

Bob, glad to know some of my grey cells are still functioning after all these years. You're right, we did ride the same bus from Hicksville to Pius and back. I believe the driver was Nate Bogash. His daughter was in 8th grade when we were at St. Martha. Glad to hear from you. Do you ever hear from any others from the class of 64? I heard from Paul Fulford. I've seen Jim Glover's name a few times. Hope you are doing well. Mike

Mike, I graduated from the high school in 1964; and, departed, after one year in the college, in 1965. Each day, we rode to school on the same bus from Hicksville--the first year to St. Martha's in Uniondale. I was from Holy Family Church; and, if I remember rightly, you were from St. Ignatius. We travelled in the company of Jim McNamara, Bill Doherty, John Anuszewski, et al. Long time ago.

Hi Paul. Yeah I had a 58 desoto, two tone blue. I went to Marist in Poughkeepsie and graduated in 68. Then USAF for 6 years. Lived in upstate NY for a few years and finally settled in NW North Carolina. Left my job in 07 and retired in 09. Being 700 miles form the Island makes it hard to join in the reunions though I would love to see a lot of the guys from the old days. I lost all my memorabilia from my Pius days except for a bunch of Sartor's. I was hoping someone would have a copy of the yearbooks that could be scanned. I have some pics I took for the Sartor and Lumina but can't put names to them.

Bob P. were you 64 high school or college class. I was 64 high school and 66 college. your name tings a bell. I thought 64 had a Lumina. I worked on most of them when we moved to 1220 from St. Martha's. Lost all my books from Pius and have been trying to find one to scan.

May God grant eternal rest to LTJG James F. Rost, USN, of the Class of 1962, who died on 17 November 1969 in service to our Country and to our fellow man during the Viet Nam War. May he abide forever in the Mansions of the Lord. And, for their great sacrifice, may God shed His grace and peace upon the members of his family today and in the years ahead. And, may we, Jim's fellow veterans, recall and make our own the words of Captain Jeremiah Denton, USN: "We are honored to have had the opportunity to serve our country under difficult circumstances." We Still Remember.

Farrell,
Good to hear from you again. I am glad to hear that you are interested in the 50th. As Dan indicated, Steve Hessler is responsible for organizing the event. I have been pestering him to set a date, so that I do not give it away to some other commitment, but nothing has been set in stone as yet. At one point there was mention of a multi-day event like Montauk or Westpoint. I would assume such an event would occur in the summer or late spring. If more of us start bugging Steve, maybe the planning will move forward.

My brother, James F. Rost, graduated in the first class, 1962. He then went to engineering college, followed by Navy OCS. He served for almost two years on the destroyer USS Eaton, including six months off Vietnam. He then volunteered for Mobile Riverine, whose boats patrolled the Mekong Delta. He was killed in action on 17 November 1969. An officer who met him there, Rolland Kidder of Ashville, NY, is preparing to write a small book in memory of him and two others who died there. We would be most appreciative for any memories you can contribute of Jim. Jim wrote a column in the Sartor; we would be grateful if anyone can pass along copies of it.
Contact me at COnsultDPR@IEEE.org or Mr. Kidder at <rolland.kidder@gmail.com>
A sample of Mr. Kidder's writing can be seen at: <http://www.usni.org/magazines/navalhistory...king-brown-water>
Thank you, David Rost
