I always add the subs name to the page, and if they let me I add a clickable email to them. Some don't want email, some do. I'll start adding dates.

In regards to the "last updated" posted on the index page, I really don't weigh that heavily when I evaluate a web site. I would like the CCs to put a date of first posting or update on new or updated pages. I often use the site search engine and search for 2008. If there are no dates on any of the pages, that is not helpful at all. I would also like source citations and credit given to contributors.

Right now I have 12 counties that still have a non working email address for the SC on the main page. I really hate the thought of trying to replace CCs for 12 counties all at once, but I have strong feelings that emails may not be answered and nothing else is being updated either. There are probably a few that are flying under the radar because they do the bare minimum. I think each of you serves on the website assistance committee. Would you each like to take a couple of counties temporarily? Actually I do have a new CC for one county who just had cataract surgery and wants to start about Oct 3. I think he will be an awesome CC.

The code does not work in an SSI file. You must put it on the page. I have it up on my front/home page. Does it need to be prominent? My stat counter does work in an SSI file. Wonder what the difference is? hmmm.

Oh me of little faith, huh? :o) I know you can't fix that one.
Unfortunately that one is the one that makes the biggest impression on the users.

I can think of now way to tell if a CC is answering user emails, unless you pose a query for them to answer, and unless you are seriously looking for that answer that would be wasting their time.

Somethings have to be taken on faith and promises.

You don't have to change anything? Someone had told me when I was at rootsweb that I would have to take away a period to get it to change. I'll never remember that. I usually update late at night and go to bed, so I will forget to upload an index. But, thinking about it, I probably change the index at least once a month. So that would be ok for me.
But I don't think that would work for all CC's. It won't tell if they are answering emails. Or really updating anything. So the update could only be one part of it all.
I think according to the emails from the group, the majority of responses were in favor of the page updater. So that is probably a go, right?
A site must have a page updater that shows activity within the last -------. (month?)
I would love to hear the Boss' opinion of what are good indicators and what she consinders a 'dead' site.

My suggestion was to put the code on your "front" link page, and whenever you update the site, just send in a reupload of the front page. (Changed or not, the date in the javascript will "update".

Are we trying to come up with the requirements to remove a CC, or for all CC's?
Responding to a Roll Call needs to be a requirement and one worthy of removal if you don't respond within a given time period. 3 months was mentioned and that is ample time to know that the CC is not going to respond. I know that there were offers of help in 'babysitting' a site for those that needed time off. That is comforting to me to know I can take the time if I need it and not have to give up my county or worry about what is going on. I believe that perhaps if we know we are going to be gone for a certain time over so many weeks, it should be required that we notify the SC?
Having a dead email, or perhaps not responding to more than one email from the SC or ASC.
What is more important? Adding lots of data or helping others with their research as best you can.
I think if the SC is getting complaints about a CC or site, that should be good cause for removal after looking into the complaints or having so many.
