Post your World War II group summaries here. The guidelines for this assignment are as follows:

1. Enter your assigned group number as your name.
2. The very first thing you should enter is your topic name, then go to the next line and begin your paragraph.
3. No slang or text-message abbreviations. Treat this as you would an English assignment.
4. Plagiarism will earn you an F. Use your own words and make it easily understandable by your classmates.
5. I will be reading and grading each one of these. It is worth 20 points for each person in the group.

I'm looking forward to reading what you come up with. Good luck.

Tuskegee Airmen
The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of young African-Americans determined to enlist into the American military. Through 1941 to 1946, the African-Americans were trained at the Tuskegee Airmen Air Field In Alabama (TAAF). The battles they fought in were mostly in North Africa, and Sicily, Italy. They were assigned into the 99th Pursuit Squadron, later renamed the 99th Fighter Squadron, or the 332nd Fighter Group in the Air Force. Each African-American possessed a strong personal desire the serve the United States of America at their best of his ability. This was an important initiation of the historic social changes to achieve racial equality in America.

The Islands of Iwo Jima and Okinawa

The islands of Iwo Jima was a Critical point for the United States. A bomber refueling station on the island would make an attack on Japan possible. Making this possible was not easy, this island was one of the most heavily defended Japanese areas on Earth. The United States did not like this. They formed an armada of marines to attack the Japanese. A total of 20,700 Japanese troops were on the island. After the attack, only 200 Japanese troops survived and 6,000 marines lost their lives. This obstacle was out of the way, but one more still posed as a critical point. The island of Okinawa was this last obstacle. The United States attacked the island on April of 1945. After invading, the Japanese sent out a force of 1,900 kamikazes to attack the United states naval fleet. The damage done was 30 ships destroyed, 300 damaged and 5,000 seamen killed. The turmoil ended on June 21, 1945. Close to 7,600 American troops were killed but the united states were safe for the moment....

Dropping of the Atomic Bomb
Japan was a part of the Axis Powers. The taking of Iwo Jima and Okinawa left Japan open for some invasion, but the Allies Powers knew, that this would be a drastic decision, because Japan had a huge army that would put all at stake to defend Japan. The latest president at the time was President Truman. He knew that something must be done. Truman thought of the Manhattan Project, the Atomic Bomb. Scientists Robert Oppenheimer and General Leslie Groves tested this atomic bomb in a remote desert in Alamagondo, New Mexico. THE BOMB WORKED! On July 21, 1945, President Truman hesitated and gave them a chance to surrender. Japan didn't. So on August 6, 1945 a bomb, named Little Boy was dropped over Hiroshima. The bomber was Elona Gay. This was a very important Japanese military center. 3 days later, Fat Man, another bomb, was dropped on Nagasaki. The bombs made a mushroom cloud, and by the end of the year, it killed about 200,000 people due to radiation and injuries. Truman emphasized that this bomb was used to end the war. But had he created something that was so unthinkably big that it was too dangerous?

Americans Treatment of Minorities (esp.Japanese Americans)
During 1943, hundreds of Mexican-Americans were beated, and it lasted a week. Los Angeles exploded in anti-Mexican "zoot-suit" riots.Attackers ripped off the victims'clothes and beat them up. During WWII,110,000 Japanese were sent to internment camps because the military argued that Japanese were a threat to the nation's security. In 1942, all Japanese evacuated Hawaii. 120,000 Japanese lived in the U.S., and most Japanese citizens were in the west coast. The Japanese had to sell their homes, businesses, and all their belongings, and after they got out of the internment camps. They received 20,000 dollars. Many U.S. citizens feared that the Japanese would attack them after the attack of Pearl Harbor.

On June 6, 1944 in Normandy France General Eisenhower planned an attack on the currently stationed Axis Powers. The D-Day invasion was it's name, and it consisted of strikes from land, air, and sea. The invasion was meant to end the war against Fascism, Hitler, and restore the world. First, air and land bombards were lead by Omar Bradley. This later lead to a gap in German defense for General Patton to infiltrate. The thought to be invincible force was defeated. America lead the battle to end the war of all wars, restoring peace among many.

Battle of Midway
The Battle of Midway took place on June 4-7, 1942, which occured 1 month after the Battle of Coral Sea and 6 months after Pearl Harbor. Japan decided to target Midway because they wanted to expand their defensive perimeter. However, as they attempted to take over Midway, the US broke Japan's code and discovered their plan. The US first arrived at Midway and destroyed the Japan's forces, which included about 4 aircrafts, a cruiser, and 250 planes. This battle was the turning point in the Pacific. The Allies began "Island Hopping", winning back their territories through defeating Japan's island by island. After the battle, Japan lost about 4 carriers, 1 cruiser, 248 carrier aircrafts, and approximately 3,057 people were killed. the US lost about 1 carrier, 1 destroyer, 98 aircrafts, and 307 people were killed.

Navajo code talkers
In May 1942, the first 29 Navajo recruits attended boot camp. It has no alphabet or symbols, and is spoken only on the Navajo lands of the American southwest. They developed a dictionary and numerous words for military terms. The purpose for these words was to fool the Japanese enemies.

On December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched a cowardly attack by airplane, shooting down 13 of United states battleships. By the time we were able to launch any planes in the air for a counter attack, it was too late. The Japanese's attack was cowardly, true, but shockingly effective. 2,403 Americans died, and 1,178 were wounded. Some of you might be wondering how this all came about, we were just talking of peace with Japan! Well, due to this classified information; now released, we know. On December 6th President Roosevelt intercepted a coded message from the Japanese peace talkers. Which spoke of the secret attack, unfortunately by the time we know it was too late. Ladies, and Gentlemen we are at war.

On October 1944, Americans captured the German town of Aachen. In retaliation Hitler attempted to recapture the Belgian Port of Antwerp. On December 16, 1944 German tanks pushed through the American and British lines in hopes to cut off Ally aid. The Bulge in the allied defense line is where the name "Battle of the Bulge" is derived. Once German forces reared Malmedy, the German SS troops captured and killed 120 people. The battle lasted for a month and German casualties became severe. They lost men and arms that they couldn't afford to replace. After that decisive battle allied victory in Germany was assured.

Road to War with Japan
In 1937 Japan launched an attack on China. Since Japan had not formally declared war against China, Roosevelt claimed there was no need to enforce the Neutrality Acts. The US then kept supplying arms to China. Japan seized the opportunity to unite East Asia. They began their southward push in July 1914 to take over France. The US was against thes new act and as a result, cut off trade with Japan. On November 5, 1941, Tojo ordered the Japanese navy to prepare for an attack on the United States.

it all started on April 7, 1933 and lasted until 1945. Jews, gypsies, cripples, and the elderly were all in danger because Hitler bore hatred towards thems all. The Neutrailty Acts were a series of acts created by the U.S. stating that the U.S were not allowed to be involved in another nation's war. They limited the sale of arms to nations that weren't at war. This kept U.S. citizens from traveling on ships to other nations. The U.S. believed that if an American ship was carrying weapons to another nation at war, that the ship would be a perfect target for an enemy nation.
