Steve, I served 6 years in the Guard,64 to 70, never got deployed, but came close twice, I guess it was the luck of the draw. I know if I had went I would not be here to praise the ones that did give their lives for me and you. But we honor the one's that returned as well as the ones that didn't. The combat vets are the cream of the crop and will never be forgotten and we cannot thank them enough for their sacrifice. God Bless our Veterans!!!!!

Steve & Rick - Rick is understanding, how could anyone of us who did not go be any less understanding than he is. I would have never known the difference if you didn't choose to tell it, that shows you do have the kind of character I picture when I think of my old pal, Steve Shuler!!! Please continue to add your wit and humor to this board. It would be so much duller without your comments.

Rick, name is Big Bertha Bigg. She's 6'8", weighs about 400 pounds, has 8 kids and like I said, probably not your type. Not exactly a "looker".

To: Rick, Don, Jim, Dan H. and all the other Vets, myself included. During our youth we just happened to go through a time when this country was experiencing lots of political and social turmoil. Sometimes hindsight is beneficial, and I think 40 years after the Vietnam era is one of those times. We all know some who never returned alive from that place. But for those who returned, and for those, like myself and others, who were fortunate enough to have been sent to some other duty station, getting that honorable discharge was just that - honorable....and Steve, like Rick says, I wouldn't be too harsh on myself - we all have done things we later regretted. I think it takes a heck of a person to admit it!

Rick, I sure agree about the bad treatment from civilians when vets returned home during the Vietnam era. That was painfully insulting. When I returned from Germany I made the mistake of wearing my uniform home. From the time I left Ft. Dix, through Detroit and to Indy I got lots of mostly nasty stares, and some snide remarks, even from the cab driver who took me from the Indy airport to my front door. He sure got no tip!
But, as they say, life goes on.
Two years ago my youngest Grandson's school had a lunch to honor Veterans. The kids all took photos of their veteran relatives and posted them with short captions about who the relative was, where and when they served. Then the school had a veteran's march through the hallways. As I walked through those hallways with my Grandson holding his hand, both sides of the hallways lined with kids yelling "thank you" and waving little U.S. flags I realized that my country had finally given me my welcome home - the kind of welcome home we all had deserved.

Steve Schuler:You are by far and away, not the only fellow to claim to have been in Nam. Approx. 2,709,918 of us were actually there. However, during an August 2000 census (?), 13,853,027 people responded that they were there. Wishing all of you fellow Vets a Happy Veterans Day !

Steve you have been a friend to all of us for over 40 plus years now, you was our friend yesterday and you will still be the same friend tomorrow and forever, as Dan stated, we've all done things in the past that we regret, but hopefully get over. We best see you at our next lucheon, as well, and we expect the same smile on your face as always.
For all the vets, God Bless and we will always hang our heads high.
Go Colts and what happened to our beloved Ben Davis Giants Football Team. They sure aren't supported like they use to be.

Jim, yea they are supposed to but on CBS now is the Cincy game. Somehow cbs is supposed to cover 2 games that come on at 1pm. YUK can't find the Colts on anywhere & i've got over 500 channels. Isn't this against the Penal Code???? :-(
