The first ever Walk to Prevent Walking is only two weeks away! So, just a few quick announcements and udpates and requests:
The event is called THE WALK TO PREVENT WALKING. And it's called that for a simple reason: to show the way to prevent the need for any more walkathons. Granted, walkathons have their purpose. But, the walkathon is overdone. And rather than work towards preventing diseases that can be prevented, institutions continue creating walkathons. We've become a walkathon culture. The word walkathon even has a dictionary entry. But we can't just rely on walking in a walkathon. We need to actually shift our basic approach to healthcare. We need to open our eyes to the reality of simple, essential ways to care for our health: drinking water, getting enough oxygen, eating nutritious foods, and exercising our bodies.
This is the true Walk of health -- to take our health back into our own hands. But, many people need emotional and psychological assistance to break through habitual models of so-called healthcare that do not serve us, or our best interests. And at THE WALK, that's exactly what we're going to do. For a complete listing of Activities, please visit www.preventwalking.org

On this day, we will gather consciously as a community to do something proactive and positive for our own health. This will be a day of rest and relaxation, a day of exercise and a day to eat well. There will be music, yoga, tai-chi, healthy snacks, meditation, dancing and opportunities to learn new things and grow in our healthy understanding of life. There will be activities throughout the day. Come and join in for as many activities as you want.

I am more than certain that the time posted would refer to Beijing time since there are so many athletes from different time zones.
