Thanks, John.
I checked the different sites for how much it would cost. Someone told me it is bettr to hook with a group that's organizing so you could save a little. Can you hook me up with someone who had done it before? Nothing beats a first person account. I am giving myself a 3-year preparation window. Thanks. Let me know. As soon as the house in QC is built, I am flying over to spend a couple of months over there. Thanks, again.

Only in America

1) Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $40,000 a plate campaign fund raising event.

2) Only in America could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when we have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal work force is black. When only 12% of the population is black.

3) Only in America could we have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.

4) Only in America can we have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.

5) Only in America would we make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just become American citizens.

6) Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as "extremists."

7) Only in America could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

8) Only in America could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).

9) Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a trillion dollars more than it has per year for total spending of $7 million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.

10) Only in America could the rich people who pay 86% of all income taxes be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

Eling, check Your nearest Costco dealer. Also try Big 5 Sporting goods. I wouldn't recommend REI sports outlet since things are quite pricey there.

John, I do not know if they have sports outlets like big 5 in PI, but I am quite sure there must be since I saw an ad special on Goal Zero products on .... Beeconomic.com.ph not too long ago. And if I was over there when the ad came out, I would have bought it there 'cause I remember it was cheaper than stateside price.

For those who do not know, Beeconomic.com.ph is the Manila version of livingsocial.com or Groupon.com . I bought a couple of stuff while I was there last year. You can really save a lot, and don't worry, it is affiliated with the wildly popular Groupon. In other words, it's not hanky-panky.

Yes, that is one of the things I have in my pack. That's the portable (but all are) solar panel I put on the back of my backpack when I hike long distance. The heavy stay in camp solar charger comes under the name Explorer 150. Costco had a guy demonstrate/sell that one late last year, I think. that's when I bought that charger. Anyway, they all come as Goal Zero or Goal0 products. Here's what they have on GZ at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=...=pd_sl_3jef84se6w_b
Hope you find what you are looking for. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks, Romy. I have an Adventure Kit Goal Zero 10 solar kit that works like a charm. It came with a large solar panel, a power supply that recharges through sun or AC, a set of lights, and a small, foldable solar panel for my back pack. The power supply is advertised for 250 hours. Let me tell you: I am never out of light or power for my cellphone or iPad when camping for weeks on end. Also works as a backup for when you run into blackouts or brownouts at home. As it is, I have never bought a battery - AA AAA, C, D or whatever - in five years. I bought rechargeables and all I do is recharge them if I need to at my backyard or out in the open while camping. I can't say enough about this contraption.

Thanks, Romy. Done. In fact, between you and me, I have at least five kinds of weapons AT THE READY - a K-bar strapped on the side through my belt; a whistle that emits high-pitched sound; a modified bear spray that works on mountain lions as well; my walking (dowel) stick that doubles as an animal pacifier; and, of course, my favorite, a Glock 22 safely hidden in the bottom of my shoulder bag. I prefer a shoulder bag that hangs on my side so I can get to my applicable weapon when push comes to shove. BTW, that bag contains a snake bite kit; emergency food; a small first aid kit; a 28-liter water bottle; a couple of extra cell batteries; and a lightweight rain gear. I call these my half a day pack.
My bro and I are hiking Mt Whitney in early June and Half Dome in mid-August, so I am doing a lot of longer (16 miles or more) hikes on weekends. Weekdays I pull 5-10 miles. this weekend I am doing Santiago Peak - elevation 6,000 ft + - in Orange County. Should be good.
Hey, Romy, if you get a chance, google the name Nachum Shiffren. I met him at the Oceanside Tea Party rally on April 16. He is running for the U.S. Senate, hoping to unseat the incumbent Diane Feinstein. BTW, he is a Rabbi. A real patriot, he. Read up on him. The guy is the real deal.
Just came back from a mountain hike. Feel icky. Taking a shower. Later.

Hey Bill, how are you? I'm sure you've heard of people being hurt or even killed by mountain lions a few feet away from their own residence. These are wild animals, and when they're hungry they will pounce at anything that look good enough to eat, including humans. If I were you I will bring one of those horn, you know the ones you mount on an aerosol can, I bet a couple of ear splitting blast from this thing will send anything with fangs going in a different direction. I would really hate to hear something in the news about a retired Marine being mauled by a hungry mountain lion. Just be careful out there.

Bill,

..theme music:Jurassic Park, hmm, I'm afraid though the youngins may not relate it to reflect the strength of the 60's character, but rather think we are endangered species (or even worse, extinct). And for our attire, are we going to wear 'em pre-historic outfit? I better start frequenting again my favorite shopping store to find those outfit - the Goodwill Store.

Seriously though, any suggestions re: Grand Reunion, Sir John is our man; we will follow the lead of ACAAI.

Romy, how are you doing, my friend? Now that Newt Gingrich has dropped out of his presidential bid, I find more time to do longer hikes. I have been doing hikes on the hills of nearby San Marcos where I ran across a mountain lion about two weeks ago. Now I was told that when you meet that creature along the trail, you are supposed to 'look big and bare your teeth.' I did not have time for that since it darted across my path quickly, like in a sec, so there wasn't a chance to make that stance. I reported the sighting. For days my trekking poles were replaced by a 2 1/2" dowel stick. I have since talked to a lot of hikers who saw the creature during hikes, and they have concluded that it's a pussy who wouldn't lift a paw to hurt a human. Oook!
I also have learned quite a bit about the four kinds of snakes that are native to this area - two non-poisonous and two poisonous, including a rattlesnake that is reddish brown in color. The thing about this kind is it gives you a fair warning before it strikes. I have learned to be watchful and alert. I used to hike with earphone stuffed in my ears. Not anymore. So far, everything is kosher.

Cel, I was told the same thing when I inquired about it during a massage therapy visit last year. So I just had my feet done. Cheaper. I felt hurt, though - the podiatrist wore a safety mask throughout the proceedings. I knew this was not standard procedure, but once my wife complained about a foul smell while she was clipping my nails. I am quite sure it wasn't me 'cause I just handed her a wad of cash for her Tuesday shopping spree at Ross For Less.
Hey, I was just thinking about next year's reunion. Have you guys picked a theme song yet? If not, may I suggest something? Since the alumni effort is largely driven by the initiatives of '60s graduates, it would be nice to adopt a song that represents the strength of their character. The theme music from the movie JURASSIC PARK comes to mind. What do you think?

Hey Bill, then that's exactly what the doctor ordered, I need them state of the art altering image processor. I kid you not, One time, when we were in Cebu, and Eling had a facial; I had a body massage. The masseuse suggested that I do also facial and she mentioned some other stuff (for my face, that is) and I was sold on what she said, so I asked how much all those will cost me, so she started itemizing it, so I said, "ang mahal pala", then she said (in her Visayan accent), "well kasi sir, makapal ang pagmu-mukha ninyo, kaya...", I hope she didn't mean it that way, but..

See what I mean? So bring 'em digital image altering machine, to photoshop my picture, hehehe.

Hi folks. Yes we can do that. Perhaps we can compe-up with a membership package to include some give aways (shirt and mugs). Of course we are not giving it for free but rather include the cost of the shirt/mugs etc with the membership package. One is with the lifetime membership of 2k++ and the yearly membership of 100++. I may suggest to the Accai Board for a different shade of colors for the lifetime member card to distinguish same from the regular member. Hopefu;;y this will encourage more life time members. I will get back to you as soon as I get the costings.

If some of you have any suggested design for the mug or other souvenir items, please let us know so we can consider it.

But is it BPA-free? It looks like porcelain or ceramic, so I guess it's OK. I find that the biggest problem in the Philippines today are plastics and plastics-based product from China or manufactured thee that is contaminated with BPA.

John: How fast is the ID processing? I was just wondering perhaps the first day of the reunion in Feb2013 to have a set booth for processing IDs...pre-made ACAAI blank cards then just require attendees to bring their photos, sign the card and someone will laminate there...of course pay there too. If you have some giveaways for newly signed members (like Marible's ACAAI coffee mugs she gave us), they can distribute them there right away as well. What say you? Just a suggestion.

John, that's definitely a problem with the poor folks and a failing of the Filipino as a people. They have not been exposed to the principle of property rights and ownership. Simply put, you just don't claim as your own something that someone already claim by inheritance or purchase. Really very simple. It's a matter of common sense and respect. This should not be rocket science for any man who values life and property. One just doesn't park one's self on another man's property and expect that man to give up all his right of ownership over said land. It's basically fair, right, and decent.
The ensuing activities are where I think the government failed. There is a great opportunity for it to teach a large number of people, but instead it chooses to take sides and not maximize lessons learned. This would, indeed, result in people getting angry and hurt when asked to vacate, albeit abruptly.
Too, property owners - be it the government or a private entity - have certain amount of responsibility in the entire process. At the first indication of occupancy, had the property owners complained or said something, I am sure it would not have escalated into a violent confrontation that we are seeing now.

squatters - right. some are professional squatters and those who are identified to be professional squatters wont be given relocation areas and /or allowance. but again there is no excuse for violence in evicting them. they have been cuddled by politicians because of votes. some areas occupied by squatters are privately owned while of course mostly owned by government. we should have better relocation areas and better opportunities and work in the provinces so that these peole now in urban areas may be encouraged to return to the provinces. while those still in the province and planning to come to the cities may be encouraged to stay put and be productive there. ah so much to be done. people must learn to help themselves and not rely on the gov't...

an anyone explain what is going on with MetroManila these days? The news is kind of disturbing, to say the least.
For the past few weeks, TFC/TV Patrol has been reporting a rash of house fires in Manila and vicinity. I am not talking about just one or two homes, but dozens at a time, often resulting deaths and/or serious injuries.
Another disturbing piece of news is this crackdown on 'squatters', i.e., demolishing their homes without suffiecient notice. True, it's got to happen sooner or later, the fact that real estate owners had to reclaim their land. But what a way to do it. The latest confrontation between the cops/demolition team and the residents ended up in one death, serious injuries to a dozen, and arrest of many. Here is a great opportunity for the gov't to be a positive influence between the parties. The residents have legitimate gripe - you can't just barge in and start tearing up people's homes. You are talking about disruption of their lives.

John, just to clarify what I meant - ACAAI should have a bank account established for the convenience of those who want to deposit their membership fee from far away places. That is what I meant by 'dollar account.' Sorry if it came out garbled. As an example, we have an account with a major bank. Makes money 'transfer' and deposit a piece of cake. That's just a suggestion, though. As for me, I intend to take you up on your request when I visit in June or July.

It would be easier for anyone abroad to make it happen if they have an account to deposit to. Apparently, the former mayor of Washington, D.C., that cocaine-sniffing piece of trash named Marion Barry, now a D.C. district councilman, don't want Filipina nurses in his district. Well, another reason for Americans of Filipino descent to stay away from the Democrat Party. I have not heard anyone within the party condemning the man. Romy, here is another example of a stupid liberal idiot who decided to tweet/re-tweet an address where Trayvon Martin shooter allegedly lives, using the same technique that Raissa Robles and her U.S. cohorts used to search for alleged CJ Corona-owned property in the U.S. Goes to show you that that kind of thing is unreliable, and in Spike Lee's case, recklessly dangerous http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/spi...merman-tweet-567891

Romy, here is the article that encapsulates media laziness in the vetting of Barack Obama. Absolutely disgraceful that they have been silent about the trampling of the Constitution by Obama and the Democrat Party. http://www.wnd.com/2011/01/254401/ So, can you really blame me for calling Filipino Americans who support Obama as ....STUPID? They have nothing to say to me.

Raissa Robles. Romy, her name popped up again during a status report on CJ Corona's impeachment trial on TV Patrol news show. She purported to have 10 Filipino sources in America who can attest to Corona's ownership of real estate properties in the United States. Well, we know at least 10 Filipinos in the U.S. with too much time on their hands. And as for Ms. Robles, she reminds me of a typical liberal journalist who is too lazy to do real investigative work so she simply relied on hearsay or results of Google search. If she dug deeper and took time to go through the real process, she would have discovered that by simply being a co-signer and/or reference could get your name onto the some search results. I would consider her EXCLUSIVE to be mere 'unfounded accusation' unworthy of further comments. Besides, that sort of information does not have anything to do with the charges against him. I am afriad that the senatorial judges, if real justice is to be served, have to cup their ears and exclude these baseless rumors from being included in the final judgement against (or for) the CJ.
Romy, we have always accused America's liberal media of espousing a twisted philosophy. I am afraid that the Philippines has become an unwitting recipient of that. We did not invent FREE PRESS, but the practice of it, even its extreme form, has found expression through the works of journalists and bloggers like Ms. Raisa Robles. I really can't believe we are even discussing the merits of a Google search. But, politics being the way it is, I can only blame the prosecuting team for opening the Pandora's box on Corona's alleged U.S. properties. They know full well that these information are not relevant to the impeachment case.
On General Garcia's case, that was cut and dry. I mean, the utter strupidity of everyone involved with Garcia is so blatant. I could not believe that his wife and a son have tried to sneak in tens of thousands of dollars into the United States! By the way, guess where the 'congressional hearing' on the generals 'pabaon' case stands? Is it on hold until after the CJ impeachment case? Probably so. Talking about about ningas cogon (Filipino enthusiasm - sudden flare up, then fire dies down)

Bill: Of course all of these speculations are useless unless it's proven to be true and I think it's best for everyone to just sit on the sideline and wait for the referee's decision. However, my gut feeling is that it's probably true, knowing the reputation of powerful people from our country, I just can't help to think any other way. Did you know that General Garcia, the plunderous AFP controller who stole more than 300 million pesos of the people's money also had a US greencard in his possession while serving in the Philippine military? Now, this birth certificate issues on Obama was something that our government should have really checked time and time again before he was even allowed to run for president. I remember when I came to the US in 1965, the term African American did not exist, most blacks called themselves either Negro or colored, and if you made a mistake of calling a black person "black" in those days, you will find yourself laying in a hospital bed or six feet under. Obama's birth certificate indicated his ethinicity as African American, why would the State of Hawaii use that term in 1961 when the term did not yet exist? There's a lot of "IFS" on this man's resume and yet there's no real outrage from the American people. Let's hope that America would wake up soon before it's too late.

Romy: I just read Raissa Robles' article. There could be an element of truth in it, but the search she is doing produces results that indiscriminately tie names to properties that may or may not be Corona's. I searched my own name, and it yielded results that tie me to addresses in San Jose and Santa Clara where I RENTED during my period of employment in Silicon Valley. The thing is the search also showed names of my daughters who have never lived in those residences. If you search Manny Pacquiao, it will show 1 address in Las Vegas. OK, I know he stays at Mandalay Bay when he's in town for a fight, but it doesn't show one property that he actually owns in a city near Beverly Hills. Why is that? Can that be hidden in a public search? In that sense, the search is a 'hit-and-miss' proposition. So, that kind of yield methodology is not acceptable as evidence in a court of law. She needs concrete proof that Corona, indeed, owns those houses mentioned in the search. That requires more than Google search.
As for accusations that he may be a permanent resident of U.S., that's possible. We just don't know. If a non-natural born can be president of the U.S., then it is also possible that Corona has pulled the wool over the eyes of the American people. Incidentally, there is an affidavit circulating in the conservative press about the missing Hawaii birth certificate of the illustrious fake Mr. Obama. Apparently, there is no such thing. The so-called 'original' produced a few months ago has no official record to back it up. Strangely, travel records INTO HAWAII three weeks in August 1961 has been scrubbed from public search. Why is that?
Politics has ruined the country we loved. Unfortunately, politics will be unable to save it from sure ruin. It is the good people who have remained, the OFWs, and the balikbayans in whose efforts the medical and dental missions are collectively or individually being pursued that will prevent the rottenness from infecting the core. Good people can disagree, but good people are needed to keep the country from falling deeper and deeper into the abyss. We need to keep talking about the problems. We need to engage in a continuing discussion.
There is a doctor who left a lucrative practice in America to run for Senator several years ago. His name is Martin Bautista. He started out saying the right things, but he soon fell in with the bad crowd and have as of late become another has-been, non-traditional traditional politican. Is the time ripe? If you watch Balitang America and base your opinion on the type of response to poll questions, the answer is -- probably not. Not yet anyway. An event trigger may be needed in PI before someone can successfully mount a challenge across the Pacific.

Hey Bill, John. Have you guys heard the latest story on CJ Corona? A journalist blogger by the name of Raissa Robles wrote an article about the possibility of Corona owning several properties here in the US. She cited that a certain person known only as "Yvonne" discovered some documents under the name Renato C. Corona to owned several properties here in California and Florida. Robles also cited that perhaps it's just a coincident for Corona to have a namesake here in the US. But what is odd about it are the name of his wife, his children's name their ages to be exactly that of Corona's. There are other stories that he may even be a permanent resident of the US. If this story is proven to be true, I think his goose is cooked. Anyway, I agree will Bill. Just about everything that we're hearing about our beloved country are both bad and sad news. Remember Bill, I once mentioned it to you that our country might have reached that point of no return, but I also think that there's still a chance for our country to bounce back. We just have to get our common sense back, after all, we the people are the one's responsible for creating some of the monsters that are now in charge of our country's fate. I know it to be true that election after election, despite of having done nothing constructive to improve the quality of life of the Filipino people, our kababayans tend keep voting for these same deadbeat politicians. I think it's time for the people to start holding their feet (these so called lawmakers) to the fire when they fail to do their job, don't you. Anyway, sometimes I feel that the ones that can truly see what is going in our country are those on the outside looking in. I certainly know of one. Have a nice day you two!

Hi, John. How are you, my friend? Are things really that bad over there? Fire everywhere. Kidnappings. Carnappings. Sex crimes against the very young. Raucous demonstrations everyday. Impeachment trial. Watching the news from the Philippines is enough to give me a raging headache to last me until the next episode of TFC. And no matter how Ted Failon, Korinna Sanchez, and Ex-VP Noli de Castro try to make light of the situation, there is no hiding the fact that the old country we once called home has crossed that line of no return. At least, that is what I think. Don't you just find these goings-on disturbing? It is like 1972 all over again. The country is ripe for a...revolution? I pray not, but the signs of a coming convulsion is there. Philippines is not unique and certainly not immune to the travails of a growing society. What do you think, John?

Guys: I missed quiet a bit of stuffs since I last checked messages. Been busy catching up with refrigeration repairs and taking care of my daughter's corgi that could not get up shortly after we left for China. Thank God that she is doing very well now. She can get up and run and pretty much take care of herself. The Vet told us to keep her confined in a small space to limit her wanderings and activities. This dog is very active and she likes to run and jump a lot. Sad to say, she's grounded from all of that for the time being. She's one of those sheep herder breed that's why she's the way she is. Truly this dog is a delight. Anyway, we plan to to to the Philippines next year to attend Rose's high school reunion. It will be around February if I'm not mistaken. I will ask her to get a firm date.

Bill, what happened to your wife was unfortunate, but it's really nothing new. I've heard of so many similar stories from friends and acquaintances who had the same experiences, and not just from strangers but even worst, their own relatives. I don't know Bill, are we wrong if we sometimes talked about how and why our people developed these bad traits? I'm not suggesting that these does'nt happen in other culture and I'm sure it does, but this is something we see all the time in our country. I think it had something to do with an assumption that because we've lived and worked in America that money are just oozing out of our pockets. That's why sometimes I don't even tell some of my distant relatives that we're in town, I seem to acquire more and more unknown relatives every time we visit Pinas.

Romy: Unfortunately for the Filipino, Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection has done just the opposite. Instead of producing a better class of physically, psychologically, and, hopefully, morally upright human beings, the Filipinos have managed to produce a strange admixture of outwardly pious but inwardly corrupt men and women who prey upon the innocent. I am sad to report that despite the generosity and charity my wife have shown to her indigenous townmates, one solitary soul whom she trusted to help her as her new personal assistant took advantage of innocence and robbed her of P20k while she wasn't looking. Vilma said the money is nothing. But she said it definitely affected her morally. She would now take my advise and screen job-seekers closely. Job construction is proceeding nicely, but probably not as fast as we would like. Otherwise, everything is cool.

Bill, I think Darwin's theory of evolution really did exist and our country (Pinas) may have been a good example of it. Think about it, we've been a free country now for nearly seven decades, we did'nt want to be part of the greatest nation in the world, and with that attitude I think we've evolved into a bunch of nitwits who completely lost our ability to think clearly due to total loss of common sense. What else could it be, you said it yourself, creating a multi-party political system that confuses the heck out of the Filipino people is taking it over the edge. Or maybe that's just the way these supposedly intelligent politicians intended it to be. I really believe that the majority of these lawmakers could'nt care less about our country and its people. Our system of government have been the breeding ground for corrupt activities for so long that it may take another lifetime to purge this disease out of our system. I really love to think that there's still hope for our country, and perhaps there is, and for us to witness it will be something. I'm crossing my fingers!

Romy: thanks for the response on Mario Cordova. And thanks for the regular email containing some interesting situations, mostly about 'those wayward critters with strange theology' (Democrats). If you are reading this and you call yourself a member of that party, I apologize to you in advance, but you should pay more attention to what your party is up to. Now, if you already have done that and are keeping up with their shenanigans, but still choose to be associated with them, then excuse me for asking: 'WHY?'
I used to think so stupidly that whenever you talk about politicians, then you are discussing politics. That's not necessarily true anymore. Politics and the practice of it inadvertently bring principles or beliefs out into the open which eventualy find themselves in legislation which directly affects everyone - you and me. So when Politician A (for lack of better term) decides to raise your taxes, it's not politics. It is MONEY OUT OF YOUR POCKET. Look at results from your own personal perspective, not media's or politician's. It's some stupid idea by a politician believing that raising taxes will collectively lift this country to prosperity. And it is no accident that the Democrat Party is full of Politician As, profligate taxers and spenders all. On the other hand, the Republican Party is home to Politician Bs. These are guys and gals who worry about how to make the government more efficient and how to cut spending. They worry about how you could bring home more of your money. If you are always running short of cash and having money problems, you will probably go with the Democrat Party because they love to give OPM (Other People's Money) to everyone, needy or not, and to fund every silly program, gov't or not, there is and even give you freebies from the leftovers. On the other hand, if you don't have that kind of a problem and live a lifestyle of the straight and narrow, you are probably a Republican. If not, you should be. Why support a party that's been treating you like a minority (being thought of as unable to do things on your own)?
Romy, the above analysis brings us closer to home, RE: the situation in PI. This leads me to a conclusion which may or may not surprise you. Philippine politicians do not make sense. Just when you think Politician B has risen to a level that is both respectable and commendable, he turns around and starts acting like Politician A. Here is what is sad about the Philippine politician - he is both victim and beneficiary of one of the most inane invention ever conceived by the Philippine mind - the party list system. If you think a two-party system is confusing, try over 40. Can you even make sense of what each of this party and party coalition even stand for? Do they have distinct personality or mission save a single constituent issue? And this so-called party coalition is just one crazy idea that translates to me as 'scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours.' A coalition is an oppourtunity for party members to compromise. Unfortunately, in the process, they compromise how little decency they have left. Solutions seems to be to go back to the two-party system and the party to develop consensus on a platform. Thus, the party list process is confusing at best.
I am off my soft box.
And offline for now. Bye.

Hi there folks - it's me.....sorry for not responding to you guys soon.
Eling/Cel - Hello - hope you're both feeling better. How's Melody? We've been busy since we came back from China - 1st, adjusting to the time, been sleeping more than 4 hrs during the day and awake 6 hrs during the nite. Got the colds since the blower of the plane heat me like crazy. Didn't realize (daaahh) until I woke up from my power nap (took it as soon as I hit the AirChina chair). I tried to avoid their yucky food but everytime I felt hungry the food was right there infront of us.....My colds plus Kailee's hit Allen simultaneously and we're on the way to recovery....thank God. Eling that pic of the 3 Divas is pretty. Do send it to my e-mail and I will send your regards to Billy in LV n the pic too.......miss the group esp when we did the last morning shopping of dykiam, champoy, etc. before we left Shanghai......hmmm - I should have bought more. The champoy was not too salty...luv it. Couldn't read the Chinese characters we just look at the inside of the pkg....what a treat!

Rose/Roger - how's Pepper? Hope that kid of yours would get better soon. Hope you're eating now and unstressed.Congrats to your son Jesse and family - the Bautistas are getting bigger and bigger, huh?

Beck - I couldn't read much the invite you sent us for the baptism. Sorry we missed that one. Congratulations and Best Wishes to all. Looks like it was for same date we had 2 other invites we had and unfortunately, not one of them we attended due to our bad colds. We'll talk soon when we see each other next time.

Rolly/Mercy - Thanks for the welcome greetings - Yes there was that Budha there everywhere in China even a huge Fortune Cookie in one of the restaurants we've been & in gold! (Naaah not real gold)!

Bill - I might give Vilma a ring re the builders in PI. We haven't seen the final plan as of yet. Hope eventually to find a good lot around the area in Tagaytay(off the maddening crowd).

Have a good day 'ya all.

Thanks, John. Regarding Mario Cordova, we briefly exchanged correspondence in January, but he is yet to respond to my last. Wehereabouts is he? Here in the States or Canada? Does he frequent this site? Mario, if you are reading this, leave a footprint, man. We want to invite you to next year's reunion. Gotta get this thing going.
Romy, so you are attending next year's reunion in PI? That's great. Roger or anyone in the know - do you have tentative date for the Class '65 reunion? Pleaselet us know so we can make preparations and block our calendar.
Romy, snakes in Camp Pendleton are predominantly rattlers. And here's the kicker: they are protected by Base Regulations. Should you have an encounter in populated areas, you are required to call the Base Animal Control office to come take it away. Harm them and you run the risk of getting charged for violating a base regs. If you are on active duty, you might get an NJP (Captain's mast). But you are protected if you just casually drive over them on paved roads. It's all for the good: Camp Pendleton has been recognized by the DoD with multiple awards for protecting the environment. Speaking of conservation efforts, did you know that there is a healthy herd of American bison roaming freely in the plains and hills of backcountry CamPen? Oh, yes. When I first got here in '72, there werer 52 heads in that herd. Let me check...a 2008 LA Times article pegged the number at over 150. Anyway, sometimes they mistakenly wander into hot areas like shooting ranges. If they are live, you hear that familiar refrain: 'Cease fire...cease fire...clear and unlock your weapons...buffaloes in the line of sight, gents...'
That's good deal on a new house, Romy. Is that in Antioch area, too? These days, there are good deals around. You just have to find the time to look for them. My puntirya is Las Vegas, NV or Phoenix, AZ. Unfortunately, my last foray did not pan out as well as I thought. We made a cash offer on a house in Paradise just right outside Vegas, but the bank said 'NO' about that, sticking to the realtor's 'asking' price and did not even entertain a counter offer. I just don't like that kind of pressure, so when asked if I want to go through with the original asking price, it was my turn to say 'NO' and got my earnest money back in full. There will be more opportunities somewhere, somehow. Like I said, all one has to do is find the time, which is a luxury that I can ill-afford these days. There is a country to save. Speaking of Newt, you might hear a good talk about brokered convention in Tampa if Romney does not get the required number of delegates before then. That's just fine. A brokered convention is the prefect venue for those on the periphery to extract concessions from the eventual nominee. What am I talking about? Well, let's take Newt for instance. He passionately fights for ENERGY INDEPENDENCE. Romney, it seems doesn't talk about it much. A concession would be for the winner to promise that, if successful in his (or her) White House bid, he/she would seek resolution to an issue that would otherwise be relegated to lower priority had the concession not been made.
Cel and Eling - good to hear you are recuperating. Ashtma with flu - that's not a good combination. Here's a good combination: AIDS and Alzheimer's. Go to the doctor to find out you have AIDS, but you are assured that things will be OK because you also have Alzheimer's so you can go home and forget all about it. Hmm, I know...bad joke. Sorry. Eling, the house is located near SM Fairview in Quezon City. In fact, it's walking distance from the mall, so you know where Vilma will be most of the time. Ha-ha. It is also near a multistory medical center. I figure I need to be close to one when the shock of seeing Vilma's shopping mall receipts triggers shortness of breath (mine).
All for now. Bye.

Bill, anytime you want to hold mini-reunions, am all for it. We have to take advantage of the time God is giving us and be with friends. It's a great blessing.

By the way, am in contact with Mario Cordova. It will be good if we can invite him here (message board)

Bill, I can deal with bugs and other critters but snakes, venomous or not I can only deal with those things from a distance. Now, these snakes that you are talking about that are abound in the Camp Pendleton area, are they mostly rattlers? Anyway, better wear them hiking boots when you're in those areas or carry with you some snake bite anti-venom serum, you can't be too careful especially with your passion for hiking. My wife and I will probably attend any future reunion, providing it does'nt interfere with anything important, these days the only thing important to both of us are the grandkids. My daughter and her children are staying with us for a time, she just filed for divorce from her alcoholic and deadbeat husband, best move she's ever made as far as I'm concern. And Bill, we just bought a new home, something that we were'nt really thinking of doing but the deal was something that we just could'nt pass. 2k down, the builder pays all fees and closing cost with 11k for optional items that we want added to the new house (also courtesy of the builder). The total cost, 285k. The house will be finish in August. I'm thinking, in the event that our daughter decide to have a house of her own later on, we'll just let her take over this one. I just want to be around to see my grandkids at least go to college. Bye for now, buddy!

That's an idea, Romy: a self- contained air purifier. Is that available? I will check Amazon. I brought some face mask with me the last time, but I did not bother breaking them. I know; it's stupid to be walking outdoors when you know there is a silent killer out there. It's unseen, but I know it's there working its destructive best on my upper respiratory region. I was watching a Salamat Doc episode not too long ago, and they had a report about the leading cause of death among men over 40 being respiratory failure caused by pollution. No, not smoking, but inhaling. I could see why.
Good to hear the good news from your doctor, Romy. When we reach this age we really have to take good care of ourselves. We are easily susceptible to disease, and our immune system is not as great as we would like it to be.
Pareng Romy, when you go back for a visit to PI, you and your wife are more than welcome to stay in the new house. I am getting ready to send a couple of Balikbayan boxes containing nifty stuff for it. I just bought a soda machine and a four-camera security system by Swann. I like that sec system. You could see what's going from any computer or smartphone anywhere in the world. I supposed I have to get wifi service for the house, though.
I just came back from a hike in a hilly area of Carlsbad called Lake Calavera Hill about a few miles from Oceanside. It was raining all morning so the ground is a little saturated and slippery. I use a pair of trekking poles whenever I go out there, so it wasn't too bad. The wet soil probably kept my mortal enemy the snakes in their hideout. That's good enough for me. Snakes at Lake Calavera Preserve are plentiful and something hikers are very watchful for. But that's nothing compared to the number of slithering slimes that can be found within the base at Camp Pendleton. During summer or when it's unseasonably warm, you could drive from San Onofre, the northern part of the base, toward main side in the south, and you could hear distinct bump-bump underneath your automobile as you run over snakes on the road. One time I was coming home early from work in LA and I decided to take one of the least travelled road through San Onofre. I must have counted 16 instances of those suckers getting run over. Yeah, I look at the rear view mirror to be sure. Had to wash my auto carriage of blood and other scaly debris. Yech!
I got a couple of reservations to climb Mt. Whitney and Half Dome in Yosemite. My brother, who just came back from deployment in Afghanistan, will join me. The thing for me is finding the time to train. I try and somewhat successful at it to find a happy balance. I lost 7 lbs. already. I want to shave off at least 25. I think I can do it.
Anyway, catch you later, Romy. Oh, are you planning to attend the '65 reunion next year? Hope so. Roger, when is that going down?

Bill, kamusta na pare? I think next time you decide to go even for a little stroll back home you better wear one of those self contained air purifying apparatus. LA smog is nothing compare to the polluted air that's slowly killing our country's eco system. I'm glad you've finally got your groove back, my wife and I are also getting back to our old self. That two month stay in Pinas took a toll on both of us this time around. Two days after we arrived, we both got the flu, then two weeks later Sylvia ended up being confined at St Luke's hospital for a week with Dengue. I think my son's place being next to a really busy roadway was the culprit. We go back to Pinas every year, staying two to three months at a time and this is the first time that we've both been sick almost simultaneously. Anyway, I got some sort of good news myself, I went for my six month check up at the VA hospital a couple of days ago and my doctor gave me a thumbs up on the health. He said my cholesterol are still down, hypertension normal and even my diabetes is improving. Except for a couple of hypo-glycemic episode this month, and a case angina every now and them, I'm hanging in there. You asked me who I am voting for, I'm going for Newt of course, but things are'nt realy looking bright for our man. I mean, against this sorry ass president and the other GOP hopefull, Newt is our country's best bet to get us out of this mess. He is a seasoned politician, had a really excellent record as Speaker of the House and he's helped improved our country's economy when the Republicans are in charge. I don't know what's going on with the American people, either they've completely lost their ability to think clearly or they just can't see the forest from the trees. This man is out to destroy America and he is doing a good job at it, giving this man another four years will be the end of our beloved country and our american way of life. We still have a chance to put an end to this come November, thank goodness for people like you Bill, you are a true patriot. Take care my friend, you know in a way, despite not seeing each other for over four decades, our friendship did not diminished, I will always remember you as that young man that I spent so many memorable memories and adventure with during our younger days. Our friendship is something I will cherish for the rest of my days. Talk to you later!

Hi, y'all. Romy, what's up, man? Eling and Cel, I hope you are over the colds and flu already. I myself just got over the terrible allergy acquired from my brief visit to the Philippines. Well, yes, that's been, what, over three months ago? Let me tell you. while there, My daily walk from 18th Avenue to all points west, east, south, and north of it left me, literally and figuratively, breathless. I could handle the distance (one time I walked to the new UP buildings near the INC church iat Commonwealth and back), but, apparently, not the nearly toxic fume from motor vehicles. if that shit doesn't kill me, I don't know what will.
Anyway, despite all this sneezing and coughing, I was able to get some stuff done for God and country. I just came back from travel to several states. I am helping the Newt Gingrich campaign - visit newt.org. It is a lot of fun waking up and knowing that I am making a difference in this seemingly ardous task of saving my adopted country from those who are out to destroy her. God knows we are in a world of hurt, and we need someone like Newt who, as a Speaker, helped achieve a balanced budget 4x. I am on travel again next week, but this week I am busy making my calls (thank you, Skype...I could not have done it without you).
As for my library project, I have completed a draft and will upload it as soon as I get a few things identified and firmed up. It's not hard to come up with a few ideas to make this thing work, you know. But it's just that some things are easier visualized than realized (English translation: 'easier said than done.' Nice to have it, but sometimes reality trumps vision. I would like to think it's going to turn up OK in the end. I pray it will.
My wife's building project is proceeding nicely, thank you. She had to deal with those little minor things like getting permits and delivery of material to the site. We consider ourselves lucky for having friends who could help - the material supplier is Vilma's best friend and the architect the same lady who helped build the old house that has since been sold. If anyone is looking for professional building contractors and workers over there, let me know, and I will pass it on to Vilma. Anyway, we hope to finish it before the rainy season begins. It's going to be a challenge if the project is not completed by then. We figured that by June, the house will be ready. By the way, I am planning to take a trip there around that time frame for the housecooling. I am going to invite my classmates to come and join me in a mini-reunion, just like the last time. Anyone who could come, by all means, do come.
John, we can't thank you enough for your hard work and patience in making the Dec reunion possible. yes, it was an unqualified success, despite the rain, and, yes, it's all because of your efforts. Thank you, John. let's do it again come June or July, my call.
Romy, may I ask who are you supporting for Prez? My friend, you just don't know how happy I was to know that you have remained steadfast to the American ideal. I I thank the Good Lord for making it possible for us to reunite, reminisce, and rekindle the friendship we have started as young men. I shall always treasure your friendship and your commitment to those principles you and I fought for, and for which you have suffered so much for. I appreciate your service and your sacrifice, my friend.

Rey: Well, just bundle up in front of your warm fire for now, anyway wala namang trabahong pupuntahan--a little bit more hibernation. Isn't that great?
No worries about the Cgeahs sched...turn naman talaga ni Sonia this time. Hope her reunion was wonderful...any pictures you can share?
Are you guys going back to Pinas soon for your construction project? Hope before the rainy season starts.
Our Phils plan is next year...Roger mentioned B65's reunion then too.
Pagod na pagod parin ang pakiramdam namin sa ngayon kaya mahirap pang magisip at maexcite for the next travel. May colds & flu pa kami ni Cel.
Bale ba eh mahaba etong ordeal namin ngayon.

Eling & all: I'm sorry for the late reply to all your inquiries. It is all my fault for not preparing ahead of time the laptop I use to access this MB. It's nice to hear all is well on this MB after all those exciting and enjoyable trips everyone recently took.
Sonia & I are back in the frigid cold weather of Canada on Feb 29, 2012 as planned. The over extended stay back home in PI is clearly taking its toll on us. Its taking us a lot longer now getting back to our normal sleep pattern in North America. It is probably compounded also by the change in the weather. The snow in our part of the country is slowly melting away but it is still cold here when compared to PI weather. Too cold for flowers to bloom yet.

I had a chance to talk to Roger today and it is nice to know about your memorable and exciting China trip. Our PI trip was good over all but at times riddled with frustations because our building projects were not completely finished and it is not that easy anymore to get those cheap labor. Contemplating to go back once more. Sorry Cel & Eling but we were with Sonia's classmates in Pansol during the CGEAHS Dental Mission. Franco also reminded me of the mission date but I have to give in to Sonia's scheduled activities at times.

So when is the next trip and where to? Regards to all.

Roger: Will be with you in prayers for your apo & pet. Glad to know that you were able to attend Beck's party for Isla.
I saw a posting from Mare Mercy in Beck's MB that they won't be able to come as well. Cel & I just got
back from the pharmacy to buy more coughing medicine, pareho parin kaming nagkakakahol. Still
haven't got the chance to hold Melody yet--just looking at a distance.

Biro mo may imbitasyon na naman tayo from Erlinda & Vic sa Hawaii. Isipin ko lang yung pagod sa Pinas & China
and how Cel & I got this sick, Hawaii is a great place to be, hehe. Let's talk about it next month. Sabi naman
ni Erlinda eh, anytime open invite, except when they go to Pinas in Nov this year.

Hope Rey & Sonia's place is cleared with snow now and flower blooms again. Regards.

Eling: Nagpunta kami sa kanila Beck yesterday. Nanduon sila Raul at Cora. Na missed namin sila Rolly and Mercy. Hopefully magkita-kita uli tayong lahat sa next meeting. It was a fun gathering kasi marami ang nag-attend. As usual, ang dami ng handa at masasarap lahat. Napakain na naman ako ng husto. May pabaon pa.
Anyway, nagkausap lang kami ni Rey a while ago. Medyo pagod din sa biyahe sa Pilipinas. We will probably hear from him again soon. Romy sent me a message on facebook. I'm sure they are doing fine. O sige, work muna ako. BTW, Pepper is improving everyday. I still pray for her from time to time including my new apo from Jesse. She's still very tiny but in good health.
