I want to welcome you to the new MSHH Discussion Board and hope you will return often and be part of our growing MSHH family. The purpose of this Discussion Page is to allow people with Multiple Sclerosis, their families & friends to learn and share living and coping with Multiple Sclseosis. We are not here to bash, ridicule or embarras anyone. If you have an opinion, remember others do too and they may not always agree with yours. This will not be a Discussion Page for Pity Parties, nor bringing problems from other Discussion Pages to this site. Hopefully we are all in this situation (having MS)for the long ride and we can make lots of good friends along the way. I do not intend to edit or delete any messages posted on this page unless the person posting has crossed the line. I monitor this Discussion Page several times a day so I look forward to meeting and chatting with you. I hope you will take the time to check out the entire website: www.mshelp.org.

I welcome both Maureen and Damion to the new MSHH Discussion page and wish both of you and your families a Happy Easter. Its raining here in Edmonds, WA but it is still a GLORIOUS DAY in history. First Church, going out to breakfast and then dinner this evening with one of our kids and his family. "Living with MS is not an option, it is a way of life" and I intend to enjoy it to it's fullest. I just turned 75; I've had MS for over 56 years and am doing what I can and ignoring what I can't. Where do you live Maureen and Damion?

Hello to all : - )) DX 2000
Bill I read what you said about going to support groups. In the area I live in I did go.I walked in with an open mind and left so depressed.I never went back. Not one person was using alternative therapy as I was. They all were progresing with this disease and weren't open minded about LDN. Being totally honest I do not know anyone in my community that has MS and uses a wheel chair or a cane. There are 4 of us 2 take shots-1 doesn't take anything and I use LDN. I'm not saying support groups are not worth attending I'm just sharing my experience.

Where do you live? I am very sorry about your support group experience. Is it facilitated by an NMSS staff member?

I'm looking for people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) who want to share experiences. I am 75+ and have had MS for over 56 years. I am very active doing volunteer work as the President of MS Helping Hands-MSHH, Chairman of the MSHH Board of Directors, Director of the MSHH Donor Closet and have been the Facilitator of the Sno-King MS Support Group for about 20+ years. I live in Edmonds, WA with my wife who is still employed as a ParaLegal. Without her support, I would never be able to do what I do.

FREE MOBILITY FOR A PERSON WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS
Starting in May 2008, the MS Helping Hands-MSHH Donor Closet, a resource for recycling durable medical equipment (DME) & mobility equipment (ME), will hold a free monthly drawing to provide a free recycled scooter or power chair to a person with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) who resides in the State of Washington. These scooters and power chairs have been checked out, refurbished with new batteries and are ready for use.

To qualify for these monthly drawings, a person needs to provide proof from a doctor that he or she has MS and complete an MSHH Donor Closet Monthly Drawing Form available by E-mail: info@mshelp.org or by calling (425) 712-1804 to have one mailed to you. One drawing form is all that will be needed to be entered in all future drawings and the MS client need not be present at the drawing in order to win. He or she will be notified.

For a minimum suggested donation, recycled scooters, power chairs and other DME & ME items are also available to others who have been denied these items by Medicare, Medicaid, DSHS, private insurance companies and other social services agencies; are living on low income and/or have fallen through the cracks of the social services system.

Since October 1999, the Donor Closet has recycled over 56,000 DME & ME items and has provided over $110,000 in financial assistance grants to people with MS who reside in the State of Washington.

MS Helping Hands-MSHH & the Donor Closet is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) all volunteer corporation licensed & registered in the State of Washington and has the mission statement: “To provided services & resources to enhance the quality of life for people with Multiple Sclerosis.”

For information on additional services and resources available to people with MS who reside in the State of Washington, call (425) 712-1804.
