In looking at the Foriegn Language frame work I learned that california wants to start holding Foriegn Language students more acountable to their actual ability. In other words, they think that the students competence in language should no longer be assesed by the amount of classes they have taken-- instead, a more acuarate form of assesment needs to be applied.

I found the lesson on the Industrial Revolution and the Formation of Unions to be interesting. It is for 10th grade students and it meets the History-Social Science standards 10.3 "effects of the industrial revolution" and 10.3.44 "the evolution of work and labor."

I read about middle school science curriculum. I found out that: 6th is Earth science 7th is Life Science 8th is Physical Science
So I guess I'll be teaching either 6th or 8th, but I'll teach 7th if they need me...

The curriculum theme that I found interesting was one in which tenth grade students learn world history, culture, and geoghraphy. They do this by studying the life and philosophy of Cesar Chavez. From this they will learn about historical events, and the evolution of democratic ideas.

Cesar Chavez was an interesting theme. With this theme any grade level would be appropiate. The standards it meets are the California standards.

I looked at 4th grade History-Social Science to read up on California history. A theme that emerged was how populations centered around the coastal areas, waterways, etc. and that remains true today.

I am researching H.S.Language Arts curriculum and I am surprised to find the ability to critique multi-media is one of the standards for improving written and spoken language. Multi-media is no longer a tool for learning but seems to be an integrated part of curriculum. There is also (in theory) a very strong emphasis on the role of the well stocked library media center in the school, and on the importance of the library media teacher's role as support for both the teacher and student. I hope this role is one that continues to become more important and does not suffer from budjet cuts :(

I looked at the eleventh grade U.S. history and geography lesson. It covered the history-social science requirements (11.1 through 11.12). The lessons covered analysis of the Great Depression, World War II, and civil rights.

There is this Cesar Chavez theme for eight grade students requiring them to analyze the philosophy of government expressed in our Declaration of Independence. Tha main standard that it meets is: 8.1.2 Analyze the philosophy of government expressed in the Declaration of Independence, with an emphasis on government as a means of securing individual rights (e.g., key phrases such as all men are created equal, they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights).

History and Social Science. What is the "philosophy of our country"(v)? Do we live in a "fast-changing society" (2)? This is a good resource for anyone interested in teaching history-social science.

There is a César E. Chávez theme for third grade that teaches students about his relationship with immigrants and his work as a civil rights leader. The main Standards that it meets are:
Standard 3.1 Students describe the physical and human geography and use maps, tables, graphs, photographs, and charts to organize information about people, places, and environments in a spatial context.
Standard 3.4 Students understand the role of rules and laws in our daily lives and the basic structure of the U.S. Government.
Standard 3.5 Students demonstrate basic economic reasoning skills and an understanding of the economy of the local region.

Cesar Chavez for fifth grade requires to write about the famous slogan of all time used by the farmworkers back then. Everyone should put standard 57.1 (discuss the mneaning of american creed that calls on citizens to safeguard liberty, respect rule of law and preserve the constitution) into practice in social studies lessons. Also, it is a very good idea to write about "viva la causa" (lovg live the cause).

I looked at the Curriculum for History-social Science for 3rd graders. I found it very intresting as it looks into places and people and the connection of Values and Ideals to ideas and behaviour. It also goes into teaching them about looking for places and seeing them which would introduce them to tech, world to see them without paying for a ticket.
