Perspective: Bill S., could you tell me where your camera is perched from? A property address or geographical coordinate would let me know your perspective. I am tentatively planning to set a few flags in two weeks and I could use your perspective to try to set them as orthagonally to your viewline as possible.
Perspective is interesting as the excavator is still on the beach. It is probably in Hammatt's driveway, the arm is just visible from Scatteree.
I am trying to plan the best locations for the flags. I have 5 different colors of cloth and I was thinking of setting two lines running east to west. The first being south of the camps of the north village and the second being north of the camps of the north village. The line to the north would have three flags in a row. Anybody with additional thoughts?

September 30, 8:52. Inletcam back online. If you compare the two shots on the first page of the website you can see that the Hammatt move is safely underway. Yesterday was such a beautiful post storm day I took a long swim in Pleasant Bay! North Beach also appears to have weathered the storm well and grew. Blue flag to inlet wrack line about 250 feet. Thanks CWR!
Looks like the excavator can't get on the beach because of trail conditions, but should have time to complete the relocation. Waves and 5.1 foot tide dont seem to be affecting the move, despite probable oceanside erosion.
Can anyone identify the posts and the distance between them on the southernmost extension of North Beach. Thanks!

Clearing skies as seen on the Fish Pier Cam, half-a-dozen fishing boats off mornings this morning and 'gone fishin'. I have seen local rain fall reports of between 4.5 and 5.0 inches of rain Chatham - Orleans area.
Coupled with the higher tides I would guess the inside trail has standing water in the usual 'deep' spots, in the range of 12 to 24 inches.
Use caution before driving through those spots, and stay off the dunes.
By Tuesday conditions should improve some what, but this time of year it takes longer to reduce the standing water depth, through evaporation and absorption.
NOAA reports sub-tropical storm Laura, 60 mph winds, slightly SEbE of the cape moving off to the north west than to curve NNE, current track model indicates it will come no closer than 50W to the Cape (Cape is 70W)

The 1:30 p.m. images from the Fish Pier Cam, shows a change in current direction, but still very few ripples on the water. Skies still brightening, and drying. Along with clearing I can now make out the breach and see the waves there.
Bill S. I'm off Cape on Tuesday, or I would have been glad to chauffeur you down the beach.

12 Noon web cam pictures at the Chatham Fish Pier, show brightening skies with breaks of blue in the over cast to the south, very placid water in Aunt Lydia's Cove and around Tern Island, and very little rain and wind. All boats at anchor show very little shift from the 11 a.m. positions. http://www.telecamsystems.com/fishpier/index.htm

September 28, 6:45 AM. KYLE: Flights and dropsonde data shows Kyle is "convectionally challenged" but is still expected to remain a Cat 1 hurricane and is still on track to pass over georges bamk within a hundred miles of Cape Cod. This is explained and updated with more detail and a 5 day cone projection by clicking on the website's upper right hand box. Expect 9-15 foot waves with oceanside erosion, potential overwash at 5 foot high tide around noon and possible North Beach growth. Thanks for your updates C.R. Rice.
Inletcam still down. Can someone give us a visual report from Scatteree and trail report when you can get out there?
Can anyone from the town of Chatham give us an update?
12:05 PM. Kyle tracking East of Nantucket. 5 foot new moon high tide.

September 27, 6:42 AM. Thanks Tim! You can see the excavator behind John Shea's camp in Bill Mc's 9/26 photo. Also see Kyle 5 day cone projection. Kyle be off Cape Sunday. So far unable to pick up North Beach image.
KYLE: Expect it to declared a Cat 1 hurricane after flights today and for NOAA to post storm warnings for Cape Cod after flights this afternoon.
9:57 AM. My web browser is having trouble picking up camera today. Will keep trying. Bill Mc's pic, also faintly shows how much North Beach has grown both before and during this storm.
1:55 PM. Bill Ryan reports that we will have Easterlies until KYLE arrives at noon on Sunday, then winds will switch around to the north the northwest as it passes by Nantucket area. Seas 9-11 feet. Still just under the 74 mph threshold of becoming a Cat 1 hurricane.
Still unable to connect to camera, does anyone have information on the beach and Hammatt move?
6:15 PM. TROPICAL STORM WATCH: NOAA has declared KYLE a Cat 1 hurricane and posted a tropical storm watch for Cape Cod. 40-50 mph winds expected, 9-15 foot waves. Strongest winds will be to the N and E of the storm which is expected to track less than a hundred miles off Chatham. Inletcam is down, working to get it back online..

I know that Tim's reads this, so I'm sure he will weigh in. The last time I just emailed him directly with the photos and he posted them.
Most likely a CCD camera, they give better image quality in low light conditions.

Also use a MAC! I think I'm capturing OK, seems to be a problem submitting on contributor's page.
By the way truck is still in front of Thayer's but I haven't seen the excavator moving so I assume work has stopped. The camera uses LED's so it has better night vision than I do. It keeps getting an image for about half an hour after there is not enough light left for human vision. A little spooky actually!
